Is IBIS on X-S10 for videos only?

Hello,

I'm getting familiar with the X-S10 camera. And what puzzles me is that in the full manual there is only one section for IBIS and it is under videography. In fact, the setting responsible for that parameter has a video camera icon next to it. Does it basically mean that while taking pictures camera do not utilize any stabilization unless there is one on the lens itself?

Thank you

Nooo.

Ibis works for photos too.

For photos fuji refers to it as image stabilization, because if the lens has OIS, the lens ois and ibis will work together. So look for “is mode” in the manual on the photo settings.

There is a section under the Shooting Menu for stills as well:

Re: Is IBIS on X-S10 for videos only?

Thank you for your help guys! Yes, looks like I've missed IS MODE for photography both in the manual and in the settings. But I guess now I know how that could have happen. When I try to assign IS MODE to the Quick menu in Photography mode, it changes OIS + IBIS settings that are purely for videography. And the manual says the same:

Now this looks like a bug to me? Why is that I have quick option to change video's stabilization from still photography's quick menu but I can't choose IS MODE for still photography using the same menu?

For photography if you dont use a tripod, it doesn't make sense to turn it off, so just leave is mode om “continuous”.

You can use IBIS on both video and photos. You can turn it off as well.

I leave it on „shooting only“ as „continuous“ would destroy the already bad battery life

well yes one major downside of it. cheap knock off batteries are better than spending $60 for a battery from Fuji. I know getting 3rd party batteries is controversial.

I do exactly that.

Lately I have been using the 18 to 55 mm Caitlins on his body. One feature that I made when is the OIS switch. When I turn it off the IBIS is turned off too. I can easily turn the IBIS on and off. As mentioned above, this saves the drain on the tiny battery.

Yes, and this is not really relevant to the topic at hand. And beyond that, I think you’ll find that many people might not agree with your statement. Consider posting a separate thread if you would like to start a discussion on OEM vs. 3rd party batteries. I’m sure you’ll get plenty of participation.

The DIS is digital stabilization in video.
