IS: GX7 II (GX85) + 45-200mm f4-5.6 v1

I have a GX7 II with firmware 1.3 (last version) and a 45-200mm f4-5.6 v1 with firmware 1.3 (last version). Do you know if the body IS and lens IS will work together to get additional IS like some body/lens combinations do?

No, that lens can't do Dual IS. There were a few of the early lenses that had Mega OIS that were not able to have that feature added in via firmware update (the original 100-300mm was one of them, by the way, too).

If you look on the firmware update page, if the date of the last firmware update for any given lens is before 2015, that lens won't do Dual IS. The 2015 update installed that feature on whatever lenses could do it (That coincided with the release of the GX8, which was their first camera with Dual IS capability. The GX7(first version) also had IBIS, btw,  but it was not a Dual IS body. Your GX7ii came after the GX8, so it most certainly can do Dual IS on lenses that are capable of it.)

Re: IS: GX7 II (GX85) + 45-200mm f4-5.6 v1

45~200 mk-I is not a DUAL IS compatible lens. If you need DUAL IS, look for it's later mk-II version.

It is Lens IS or nothing on GX85.

This particular lens does not impress me on GX85. It has to stop down to f/7.1 for sharper result and it is a shutter shock suspect.

However I found it can perform much better on G85, could be the bigger hand grip of G85 helped.

For the longer lenses of Panny, 45~150, 14~140 f/3.5-5.6 mk-I & II are DUAL IS 2 compatible. They are DUAL IS on GX85.

45~175PZ is DUAL IS too (but not its same generation little brother 14~42PZ). It is DUAL IS on GX85 also.

So do the 45~200 mk-II & 100~300 mk-II.

These are the longer, non pro class lenses of Panny which are DUAL IS /DUAL IS 2 compatible.

Another question

I have the GX7 II here with me, but my 45-200mm is at another location. I haven't used the 45-200mm in a very long time because I have other lenses that go to 200mm. I got to thinking though that if the Panasonic body and lens IS would work together it would be a reason to sometimes use it. For this combo though that seems to not work. Thanks to everyone for responding with the answer to my original question.

One more question. I recall that about a year ago I mounted the lens on the body and I didn't see an indication of whether the lens IS or the body IS was being used or if both were being used and fighting against each other. I assume that if both are turned on Panasonic will do the right thing and automatically choose which one to use and which one to disable. Is that correct?  Which one will Panasonic choose in this case?

I also assume that if I turn off the lens IS switch that the body IS will be used. Is that correct?

This has been discussed on another recent thread (about G9).

Panny does not leave any option for shooter to choose which IS to use. It is either the best of the combo or no IS. In Panny's mind, DUAL IS 2 > DUAL IS > Lens IS > IBIS.

Since 45~200 mk-I is Lens IS, on GX85, you will enjoy Lens IS or no IS at all.

If a lens has no IS switch ( e g. 12~32) will be mounted, the IS Menu will provides 3 options: 2 ISs & OFF.

If a lens has an IS switch (e.g. 14~140) will be mounted, the IS Menu will provides 2 options only. The IS OFF will disappear.
