Test shots on the R3 in really crappy light and some initial observations
3

As the post says here are test shots taken yesterday in really crappy overcast weather, which is nothing unusual here in the UK.

They where taken at 10,000 iso and they are straight shots with no post processing done at all, they where shot in RAW and converted to JPEG when download to my phone, there is no sharpening applied other than the standard profile in camera settings.

They aren't the best shots in the world but I posted them up to show how the R3 handles poor light and noise, the AF is very good and sticks to the subject better than my R6. When the camera couldn't see a head it very quickly locked onto the birds body.

One down side is that the touch screen didn't like my frozen sausages also known as my fingers and it refused to work until I warmed up my hands, no big problem as the Camera has so many ways to allow you to move AF points.

It's still early days but the R3 is an impressive piece of kit and is shaping up to be a winner.

Thanks for sharing. Overcast days are the best for this type of work, its like a giant soft box... A good thing.

AS far as the touch screen, Canon has done a great job getting their screens more like the screens on a modern smart phone. For a long time they were just junk by comparison... Anyhow, those type of screens need conductivity to work. I sometimes have issues with calluses on my hands making these screens to work. If I lick my finger it will fix that but then I have spit smears on my screen lol...

Haha, Dan I can relate to licking your fingers to get the screen to work my wife thinks stabbing her finger on any touch screen makes it more responsive including my R3 !! Haha.

Yes overcast light is great for shooting birds with multiple colours and tones, but a bit more light would be nice 😳 as an old friend of my says "it's Tupperware light" I think it's another way of saying it's flat and crap 😉

Sorry, but the first picture is not sharp. The sharpness is infront of the birds on the rock.

I really posted it up to show the low light and hi ISO performance, you've got good eyes or an even better monitor than me if you can make out the birds aren't sharp ? the whole of the photos aren't bitting sharp as they are shot in crap light and 10,000 ISO.

Thanks for the observation, the next shot I post up will be sharper.

Another test shot at 25,600 ISO hopefully sharper than my bird shots ? 🤔😜
