15 years later, reprocessing A2 images with new tools.
6

I posted some of the following pictures here 15 years ago. All were shot in London.

Unfortunately, there are no more available on line.

I decided to see what I could achieve now with the originals (raw), that I still have.

I've been using DxO Photolab to process my images for many years, but it doesn't accept MRW files anymore.

So, I used Photoshop (I have an old version), to convert the raw to jpeg, and applied Topaz AI Clear to the jpegs.

I'm impressed. I miss my A2. What a wonderful camera it was! Now, when travelling, I use a Nikon P7800 or a Nikon J5. Both are far better than the A2, but I really loved the way the A2 was designed.

Here are the pictures.

I hope there are not too many.

C&C welcome.

great results!!!
With modern post processing it's almost not worth buying new cameras.

Great looking pictures. Modern software can do a lot with the raw files of the A2.

I still occasionally use my A2 and process the raw files using Lightroom 6.

I agree. At least for daytime photos.

I own two A-2's, just in case one ever breaks.  It's my bicycle camera; light, compact, full featured. It seems that the photos don't require a lot of post processing. Here's one taken recently(old ironmaster's mansion)

Wow, very nice work! Wonderful shots, I'm glad you had the opportunity to revisit the photos from this nice old camera. I'm like Joel, I bought a second one for a backup. I really enjoy shooting the A and 7 series a lot. For my needs, they probably perform just as good as my bigger cameras.

Yes, it works. And even more in the hands of a real photographer like you! Great pictures. Congratulations!

The A2 was my 1st digital camera. And from te beginning, I shot raw with it. I remember that at the end of its life, Minolta engineers released a firmware update which allowed to shoot raw with almost no delay between 2 shots. A great gift to say goodbye to their customers.

Thank you guys. Image quality is not the only thing to consider. The A2 was, and still is, a joy to use. It was much more featured than the J5.

Looking at the pictures taken at wide angle, what I notice is that, although the field of view is 28mm, the lens is 7mm and the ultra-wide angle look from a 7mm lens is really noticeable. It looks different from using 18mm on APS-C or 28mm on Full Frame.

This is of course a thing on all small sensor cameras, not only the A2.

I couldn't afford a A2 back then so I bought a Z3 instead. I just recently discovered Luminar AI and have been reprocessing a lot of my old photos all the way back to the Z3 days. I REALLY like this program! It is quick and effective! I highly recommend it for old and new photos!

Great $25 Luminar AI bundle that I purchased: https://slickdeals.net/f/15473026-humble-bundle-photoediting-to-the-max-skylum-software-pwyw-25-for-17-items?src=SiteSearch

My first was a z5. It was a good camera to learn on, but no match for the A series. I've contemplated getting an A2 for many years. They held their value for a long time, as mirrorless took forever to arrive. Now they are so old I feel it would be a hassle to find a working one with batteries and memory cards. Still, i feel it is a classic digital camera and some part of me still envies those here who still shoot with them.

Lovely shots, André!

I was for some time living in London and revisited the city several times but that is now a very long time ago! Another life, as simple as that!
Weird that DxO doesn't accept the images, have you tried another program to export to DxO with?!

Hi Tord!

I hope you' and your wife are feeling fine.

I didn't try to export to DxO. But since I've posted these images, I've bought On 1 Photoraw, which accepts mrw files, and does a very good job.

I'm leaving tomorrow for a motobike trip to Sardaignia. I think I'll take the J5 + 6.7-13, and bring back some pictures.

All the best!

Some cough, that's all!

I was thinking of doing it, but as yet I've only used ON1 NoNoise AI, in addition to DxO.

All the best!

Have a safe trip!

I just bought an A200 that is in like-new condition, along with an A1. Your results inspire me to use this old classics. The A200 is working fine but the A1 needs battery and charger. Are these cameras really 15 years old!

The A2 was my first digital camera, in 2004. 18 years ago. What a nice piece of engineering!
