When my high ISO journey begun: the K5
12

Hello

I used a long time the ist DS. And than a K5

You can imagine what a joy it was, when I worked with the K5 ISO 1600...compared to the ist DS ISO 1600. The pictures had so much headroom for a PP:

With the K5 I could go up to ISO 6400, but at ISO 8000, the PP was a endless decision how much I de-noise it and do lost the sharpness, or I kept the sharpness and had more noise:

Now this changed with the KP, where a ISO 8000 picture is for me well to handle in PP.

So, all what I will say is: we have cameras nowadays, like the KP, K1 II and now the K3 III, where ISO 8000 or even higher ISO's pictures have a lot headroom for the PP and which have less noise at the end, but the pictures look's still sharp. I think we sometime miss to celebrate, what we have now, when we have to use such high ISO's .

Nowadays, I don't do such pictures, as I had the pleasure to do for a dance school at this time, therefore:

Enjoy your new K3 III 's, KP or K1 II for the high ISO pictures you may have to do

best regards KPM2

I still take my K-5 with me often when I take the K3iii. The resolution may not be as good but the noise celling is fantastic.

Aside from the cameras capabilities today..the pictures " both" are extremely wonderful.

I have done a few weddings.

I started with a Kx and k5iis.... very spoilt way to start.

Then a k3 ... not so happy

K1mki ... very impressive high iso

Sold everything except k3 and now have a D800 but k1 has slightly better high iso

Tried my sons D3500 and was very impressed.

Always liked the look of Kp but wanted 2 card slots

Now I'd like a K3mkiii or a D780 and love the headroom for sports, wildlife and weddings.

Being able to shoot happily up to 8000 or 12800 is insane.

Beautiful shots once again.

I also started out with an *ist DS, followed by a K-10, than a K-7, than a K-5.  It wasn't until the K-5 that I was really reasonably satisfied with the high iso performance of APSC digital cameras.  The K-3 I found if set up correctly to be roughly comparable, and the KP to be a noticeable improvement over the K-5.  The new K-3 III appears to be better than the KP in regard to high ISO, so I do plan on getting the K-3 III when the price eventually goes down to around $1850 at which time the K-3 will go to a cousin.  The K-5 will be kept as a favorite camera.

If I am shooting ISO’s above ISO 400 I batch process all files in DXO Pure Raw with Deep Prime noise reduction and lens corrections settings enabled and output the processed files as DNG’s in a separate directory. I use the DXO corrected images in my RAW conversion software and save as JPG’s. It is the best noise reduction software I have found to date and I use it with both my Canon and Pentax cameras.

I'd add my K-70 to your list. And yes, amazing how the newer Pentax camera allow such high ISOs. I'll bet other brands do too. These are good times to be a photographer. Now, if only I could remember to put in that SD card!

Those of us who used film for at least half a century before we bought, say, the K10D find all the gratitude entirely appropriate. Who could have anticipated our extraordinary current privileges?

Having spent 55 years with Pentax with a brief interlude in 2000 when i bought a Canon Pro 70. I then bought a K10 and then a K5. My original K5 quit a few years ago and I bought a 'new' K5 last year, still in the box with only a few hundred shutter counts.

I love my K5 and I can't think of anything else I would want a camera to do.

Merry Christmas everyone!
