Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D memory card

I recently acquired an 18-year-old 7D with grip and very, very low  shutter count (less than 3,000) for less than $200.  I know the camera and who owned it and it has been sitting in its box all this time for the most part.  It still works perfectly.  The batteries are original and still seem to have some life remaining.  My question is this.  can I replace the original - SanDisk Extreme 111 card with one GB storage with a newer card?  I suspect the original card is showing its age.

ANSWER:
Canon EOS 7D Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D (Dynax 7D / Alpha-7 Digital)

The card in my Dynax 7d an 8 GB card , and that holds a lot of RAW files from a 6mp camera !

As 16 or 32 GB cards are cheap enough , get one of them .

With regards to the card that came with it , if the card was originally in that camera and has only had 2000 shots on it , it's hardly used rather than worn out .

But by all means , get a new card for piece of mind . The last thing you want to do is get home after a day out and the cards duff !

Thanks.  Good point about the card.  I guess they don't have an expiry date if they're hardly used.

The old ones will be slower, to write and to read. Probably not as much of a factor for the 7D, but still a nice benefit. Older (than the 7D) cameras can be pretty picky about CF cards, but the 7D seems to be new enough that that's not a concern.

Ad I've recently acquired a gently used KM7D, I'm wondering how did you check the shutter count on your 7D as I would do the same on mine.

Many thanks to you or whoever can help me.

Cheers and happy new year!

Well, as first and only owner and using reasonable archiving methods you should know how many shots were taken with the cam.

Also if you're correctly informed by previous owner(s) and continue counting.

But as far as it's common knowledge those cams don't have a "counter" the like more recent cameras have and which can be read out.

In any case from my ownership of the KM7D the shutter count was certainly not a reliable indicator of possible issues like the dreaded FFB. When I sold my cam it had reached about 16k clicks - and it had been 2 times for FFB servicing in about 2,5 years of ownership. And just a few months after selling the cam KM cam out with a "no-more-spare-parts" notice....
