Why I stick with Canon
5

I’m still using a DSLR, but I've had the occasion to try the eos RP, an entry level full frame mirrorless camera, and the Fuji X-T3, a high end crop sensor mirrorless camera. Comparing the evf on both cameras, I felt there’s quite a difference between them. On the Canon camera, the view through the evf looked so much more natural! Even in low light. While on the Fuji it just felt like looking at a screen. And that baffled me because the evf on the Fuji is supposed to be better. It is at least on paper. But no. Canon just does it better.

No perfect gear out there. Just be happy with what you have and go shoot.

Having used Sony A99, A7r and then Fujifilm (xpro-2 and xh-1) and then trying the Sony a7r4 in store the R5 viewfinder jumped out at me as so much more OVF like - that was the bit that grabbed me first and everything else just kind of happened haha.

Im loving my R5 - it's very versatile and I've not found it and the RF lenses limiting me at all yet (in fact the 70-200 f4 is so small compared to the old EF version I had whe also being better optically I've been carrying it around a lot more in a smaller reporter style bag) - I just wish I had an infinite budget!

In the past, its been a no brainer because of the expensive L lenses I own. When I went with mirrorless a few years ago, my lenses were easily adaptable too the R. But I quickly realized I wanted native glass so I sold off most of my EF lenses and started replacing them with RF glass. I updated to the R5 back in AUG and I feel I now have a perfect kit with the glass I own and the body.

Canon does a lot of things right that aren't mentioned in reviews... Whatever...

I've got a residual balance disorder - damage to the inner ear, that can cause my brain to scramble signals from both the balance organ and my eyes. It no longer causes me problems day-to-day, but I do still have issues with many EVFs that give me severe dizzyness. Canon finders are OK for me in Smooth mode, ditto Nikon ones. All the Sony ones I've tried are absolutely terrible for me, Fuji ones are nearly as bad (except the original X-Pro in hybrid mode), and Panasonic and Olympus ones are better, but nothing like as good as Canon ones.
I recognise that I'm an outlier, and extreme case, but it does boil down to the fact that I can use Canon cameras, I simply can't use Sonys or Fujis. And that matters if I'm trying to earn a living from photography.

Good thing there's Canon then.   Haven't tried Nikon Z but they should be good. Briefly owned a Lumix G85 and its EVF was quite good as well. All the panel was visible to the corners.

Nikon Z are good. Could happily use them.

I've still got a Panny G1, which of course is absolutely dreadful - modern ones are much better, but still quite uncomfortable for me.
