Shinobi Atmos + G9

Anyone using these two together?

I'm looking for a monitor so I can see focus points a little better in the studio but be mobile enough to take on location for video.

I remember with he G7 it would black out an external monitor when it was recording :/ Can anyone confirm when you record with this that you can see what is being recorded and any  comment on input lag etc.

Thanks!

Re: Shinobi Atmos + G9

It does not black out the external monitor while recording (in fact, both monitors are active - Shinobi and G9 back screen).

Any lag / delay?

I use the Shinobi on my GH5 for stills and video. I like it ALOT.

Be sure to use a HDMI cable clamp to support the cable where it meets the G9. As with any camera, a good bump on the cable can sometimes damage the HDMI port.

Thanks Bill!

Any lag / delay?

GH5, GH5S and G9 all have a bit of HDMI output lag. How many frames, I don't know, but some folks on the DVXuser forum who manually pull focus complain it is enough to make pulling focus a bit of a challenge when it needs to be timed precisely using an external monitor.

I have not tested it that way, but when recording audio directly to a Ninja Inferno or Ninja V (not recording audio to the camera), the audio requires a delay of between 3-5 frames to match up. YMMV

Re: Shinobi Atmos + G9

I use a Ninja that takes 4K input while the shinobi only accepts HD

the lag on all lumix is 3-4 frames so if you shoot 60fps you don’t notice it. If instead you shoot 24fps is pretty bad. Consider that even the LCD has 1 frame of lag

One thing to consider is that the atomos products expect a legalised output so the exposure tools may be off compared to the camera make sure you are using the 64-940 output not the full output

this is the reason why I have kept a SWIT monitor and unless it is bright this is what I use so I do not need to mess around with the levels

Re: Shinobi Atmos + G9

Thanks for the input. I'm more worried about lag I would see that would be almost half a second or more which I saw was pretty common on some other external monitors when I researched it a couple of years ago.

A few frames I can handle the stuff I do isn't terrible precision just the eyes are getting a bit on so having something bigger will help.

Appreciate all the insight.
