Next step am planning to shoot a set of legos or a flower not bugs this is a light box for still life

Just out of interest, what type of lights are you using? If not too much trouble, can you post a pic how your light box looks like? It makes it easier to interpret/understand your results, if we see how they come about.

Interesting how at f/11the 30 seems sharper than the 60.

I bought one of these for lego and small widgets

https://amzn.to/3DAEz0h

it has a top dimmable lcd CRI 95% and is all reflecting inside. Comes with 6 pvc backdrops and a diffuser

I tried shooting lego with remote triggers flash and diffusers but I always got a highlight

there are several sizes up to 1 meter.
it is impossible to compare lenses in the field so this helps. I also located a slide for the camera however my use cases are driven by convenience not sharpness this was just for fun

I will use the 30mm for lego or at most the 45mm

in the field in consideration of the minimal working distance difference between the 45mm and the 60mm I tend to use the 45mm for non moving or slow moving and the 60mm for moving subjects however the working distance with both is too little for many situations so I also have a raynox for tele lenses

Re: Battle of Macros which one you like the most?

FWIW I don't see any significant chromatic variation, albeit the 60/2.8 looks somewhat warmer or more saturated than both Panasonic lenses.

They appear equally sharp in the details I have concentrated on.

Cheers,

F

Playing with my new light box. I need a macro slide however this gives an idea

Here Panasonic 30mm (my favourite for small widget photography) Panasonic 45mm (my favourite for flowers and underwater) Zuiko 60mm my favourite for bees and moving things

Shots are 16 focus stacked in photoshop. Interesting to see the chromatic variations. White balance was set fixed on a whibal card and lighting and exposure settings identical

Framing not totally identical due to lack of hardware!

30mm

45mm

60mm

The chroma variation is very small 150K difference driven by the Olympus lens producing less luminance in the blue than Panasonic.

In terms of sharpness you cannot take the lenses apart for most but as you close down the 30mm and 45mm look marginally better than the 60mm in the centre

Ultimately for widget photography I will use the 30mm or maybe the 45mm but this test was fun

So my eyes need calibration, most likely.

Thanks, I did not know there are so many ready made boxes, and so affordable

Made in China makes miracles. Even a 100 cm is not that expensive

For small stuff it costs a fraction than trigger and flashes and the results are way better

Of course if you shoot people you need to go back to softboxes and reflectors but I do very little of that while I enjoy a bit of still life in the winter

Re: "I am using lightroom so vignetting is not corrected"

You do know that Lightroom (Classic, at least) has always had a way to add or reduce vignetting, and it's quite flexible and works very well.

Re: Battle of Macros which one you like the most?

For true macro 1:1 the OIS was outgunned by my tripod. But, once you float around say 1:2,1:4, and so fourth, it does help. And, it's great as a damn nice portrait (45=90, 35mm  equivalent) lens, where the dual OIS really shines. The canon 100 macro with IS acted about the same, size and weight were its downfall and why the 45 became my bff.

Yes and am not using it so the lens shows as is

In fact correcting it is usually something I don’t even like
