My First Macro Photo

This is my first real photo with a macro lens.

Just a random ginger I found in the kitchen

What do you think?

Not the metaphorical elephant in the room then? Very nice.

It's hard to tell what it is just based on the photo, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I like it. Maybe you could get creative with lighting and orientation to make it look like an alien landscape or something like that. Just a random thought from someone who's not a macro photographer.

An interesting abstract shot as it is hard to identify what it is. Does look like a part of an elephant.

Is this a single shot or a focus stack?

I like it.  It draws the viewer in to try and understand the photo.  Lighting and sharpness is good.

From an editing perspective, go to 100% zoom and take a look at the top-left black corner where the ginger meets the blackness.  There is a halo of sorts (probably from focus stack alignment?)  that you could black out completely.

Since you asked---The lens image quality seems fine- as far as the subject goes-I would have deleted it .

Glad you clarified that it was Flora and not Fauna!

What do you think?

How did you get the depth of field so deep?

Thanks for sharing,

Thanks for the feedback. I really love the idea with getting more creative. Maybe some small toys, flags etc. would look like this is an expedition on another planet.

This is a focus stack. I left the setting on the camera to the default one at 100 shots, but it stopped way before that.

Thanks so much for this valuable feedback. I recently switched from Adobe to Affinity and have to get used to their tools. This is my first focus stack image so I don’t really know a lot about side effects of this technique. Maybe I also had too harsh lightning or have to get used to the automatic selection tool as I made the upper left part completely black in post processing.

I absolutely agree with you. As this was my first macro image I wanted to focus on my camera behavior during the shot and the final image instead of putting too much mental focus on the subject.

Thanks for the motivation by the way. Now I have to find some interesting subjects
