Picked up an X100S today with a shutter count of 15,700 for $400. Does that sound about right?  It came with a Lensmate thumb grip and a cheapie lens hood and a filter on the front.

So far it seems like a slick little camera, but I've got a learning curve ahead of me I think.

Are there any "must read" web sites for this model? Any beginner tips? Thanks!

If you are new to Fujifilm X, read the user manual first to get an impression on the features of the cam. The are a lot of videos for that model explaining what the camera is best for. Download the Fujifilm Raw Converter for free, it is a useful tool. Post photos here, post questions here.

Congratulations. I've got one I bought new in 2013. I've made about the same number of captures with mine as have been made on yours.

My favorite image capture with the x100s is this one at Point Loma, in San Diego. The weather was coming in and the light was magical.  Right place at the right time with a quality camera:

You're going to find that, by and large, the majority have "moved on" from this camera. A lot of the resource pages have dried up and there isn't a lot of convo on any of the forum sites.

However, I've got a plethora of bookmarks stored, so some of them might help:

Wow! Thanks for all the great links. I love the "moved on" comment.  I love buying amazing cameras that other's have "moved on" from for a fraction of the price and still a huge amount of the performance!

Thanks again,

Marcus

If its a Silver X100S in excellent condition, then that's a pretty good deal. I just sold my Silver X100S for closer to $500 but it came with three Fuji batteries, a Silver Fuji filter adapter, and a brand new Silver Fuji 49mm protection filter.

So far it seems like a slick little camera, but I've got a learning curve ahead of me I think.

The exterior of the body and controls are identical to the original X100 except for the S on the front. I have owned the original, the S, the T, and the F. If you don't care about video and only shoot stills, then the 100S is probably the best of the bunch. Beautiful images and simple straight forward controls.

Download a digital copy of the user's manual to keep on you smartphone and computer and read it until you don't need it anymore. You can also find a ton of how to and review videos on YouTube.

Some out of my X100S

Welcome to the forum, I think you’ll do well here

I also like buying cameras people have moved on from, my most recent purchase is a Nikon F2a, and a couple Nikkor lenses, for less than I paid for one of my Canon L lenses.

Digital cameras from around 2005 until now are all good enough for my use cases. Hope you enjoy your new camera and post a pic or two with it soon.

I like your idea of a "use case". I'm wanting to get into painting and thought this would take nice reference photos on the cheap as well as great captures of my family.  I've had the expensive SLRs, DSLRs, lenses, etc. For me it all comes back to the composition and the exposure. The pictures I took at the Tour de France in 2003 with my Nikon D100 are still amazing even though that camera is completely obselete. Heck I even sold some copies of my "money shot" of Lance Armstrong back in the day.

Yeah, amazing how we managed to take good pictures before 45MP cameras with auto this and that. i've dug up old film shots and even stuff from total craptastic cheapo digitals from that era and made use of them. And I swear that the CCD shots from my Nikon D50 take particularly well to modern sharpening and upsizing tools like those from Topaz.

It's funny, but there is a whole movement of people, most skewing much younger than the druids at DPR, that love the "moved on from cameras." And look at the popularity of Instax and Polaroid. Sheesh, I was bidding for some old Ricoh GR and it was going through the roof; some of us just like old digital stuff. It really is a pleasure to work wth; enjoy!

I have an OG X100s from late 2012 that I have really enjoyed, although I'm much less experienced than most here. I found the book X100s: From Snapshots to Great Shots to be very useful in exploring all the ins and outs of the camera. The Fuji manual is not terribly well written and this book goes into much more detail; very much worth the US$23 and shipping.
