X-pro 1 EVF VS X-E2 EVF

Main camera is an X-T2.

Am buying the Meike 35mm F1.7 as a 2nd fun / walkabout lens (looks pretty good actually for an insanely low price)

And was thinking of a cheap 2nd body to pop it on

One of the major draws of the X-T2 was the large 100% 0.77 mag EVF

Which is the larger EVF - the X-pro 1 or X-E2?

I can get a decent used version of either for £200 so it will all hinge on the EVF7

I read the X-Pro 1 evf is a tiny 0.37 mag but I don't think it can be that small...?

cheers

X-Pro1 EVF mag is 0.60X compared to 0.64X for the X-E2.  Refresh rate is probably better on the X-E2 as well.  More importantly, focus peaking on the X-Pro1 is abysmal and only in white color.  I find it completely useless.

XE2 is a generation better in terms of functions and operational speed, AF, etc. Closer to XT2.

VF is slightly better but without optical finder of course. Still not great, but it does have dioptre correction. Pro1 does not and corrective lenses are hard to find.

Nice to have a compact option as well. It is considerably smaller that the Pro1, which can be handy when you want to be discreet.

I don'y use peaking for manual focus I use digital split image and then just press the rear wheel to zoom in for critical check

Of course I could get an X-T1 for same price too and get large EVF but plan is one cam with 23mm F2 and other with Meike 35mm F1.4, so would prefer for one to be lighter...

Speed not matter as for manual focus lens, but diopter is important and smaller size

Actually as speed not matter I can get same condition X-E1 for £125....  very tempting idea as would get camera and Meike 35mm F1.7 for same price as jus an X-E2

thanks.

Diopters are easy to get for the XPro-1. Buy the diopters that fit the Nikon FM2. Plenty out there and available. B&H carries them.

If the EVF is important to you, as opposed to the OVF, then don’t buy the X-Pro1.  It has literally the worst EVF of any X series camera, being the lowest resolution, dimmest, slowest refreshing, and poorest colour accuracy or contrast (mostly because it’s an LCD panel rather than OLED).

The X-Pro1 has many nice qualities, but the EVF specifically is not one of them.

Had and shot both during the same few year period. E2 is a much nicer evf to live with.

You probably already know this, but the X-Pro1 does not have Digital Split Image.  It does have magnification.

I switched from a X-Pro1 to XT-1 for adapting and never looked back.  The X-Pro1 lives happily with a XF27 mounted to it all the time now.

XE1 is very much a gen1 product as well. If you can swing for the XE2, I would recommend it. It got a mid-life upgrade to XE2S spec, and was like a new camera with greatly improved manual focusing aids and viewfinder info.

I'm still using mine as a backup to my Xpro2. 7 years and counting.

Re: X-pro 1 EVF VS X-E2 EVF

I hear ya.  I might just keep the one body. I'm doing too much internet window shopping at the moment....  But yeah a T1 or E2 seems to perform better than the first pro

Both those EVFs are small, why not a used X-T1.
