*** Challenge #684 - Night Scenes ***
2

Again, thank you goes to Benji for choosing my entry as the winner of our last last challenge: Small Machines.

The new challenge is: Night Scenes.

Night scenes a/k/a low light photography allows you to make the most of dark scenes that are hard to capture. It also changes ones perception of the world due to the lack of light to illuminate the subject properly. When less light is present, it also means you’ll have slower shutter speeds, wider apertures which, in turn, equals more camera shake and blur. In short -- dark has character.

Now, this topic can encompass almost any subject being photographed in a low light situation. Please, no flash pictures. Let your imagination and creativity run wild on this challenge. See examples in next post below.

This challenge will end in 2 weeks -- Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 12:00 Noon PST. Daylight savings time will soon be behind us. Once again, winter is near for those of us living the northern hemisphere.

Challenge Rules:

The host gives you a topic and you post up to three images that fit. Remember, it's all about fun, sharing, and learning. Any picture you have taken in person is eligible, regardless of the time taken, camera, or post-processing used. The host chooses the winners and honorable mentions and posts those in a new thread. The host's decision is final. The winner of this challenge then hosts the next challenge, judges the winner of that one, and so on it goes. The winner of this challenge will have 48 hours to post the next challenge. If that doesn't happen, 2nd place will have 24 hours to do so, then it's up to 3rd place.

Submission Posting Guidelines:

Post each one of your three submissions in its own reply to this post. Give each post a unique Subject, please. It is best to embed an image in its post rather than linking to somewhere else. Feel free to post photos "for exhibition only" if you want to share more than three, or won't be available to host the next challenge. Try to preserve the EXIF please, so we can see which camera, lens, and settings were used.

Comment Posting Guidelines:

Feel free to post comments on the images or ask for comments. Don't hesitate to click on the green "Like" thumb on the top right of the post, so we know which images were most popular. Likes are appreciated as much as constructive criticism is. The host can make up his or her own mind without being influenced by that.

I wish you all "good luck" and let's see some interesting pictures.

Right when the sun set.  Night begins on the Pacific Ocean at this moment.

North Salmon Creek Beach outside of Bodega Bay, CA.

Single digit temperatures that morning in SE Michigan.

Taken at my house in Michigan one cold winter morning.  Luckily, we were going to sunny Miami Florida that morning.

Charcoal chimney starter for BBQ cook that day.  You would never see this in the daylight.

NW Michigan gas well drilling site.  They worked 24/7 to drill that natural gas well and the lighting was intense.  The morning fog was just starting to come in.

Who say's it never snows in the desert.  Early morning walk outside of my subdivision in Las Vegas, NV after an overnight snow.  It totally transformed the area for a few magical hours.

100% crop picture

The Christmas Star conjunction last December.  Shot with a 48 year old Nikkor 200MM non-AI lens with a cheap 2X teleconverter on my Rebel T5 camera.  Stood on my front porch to grab this shot.

BUMP *** Challenge #684 - Night Scenes ***

Been a week since any posts.

Here's an example of how not to take a night shot.

After you open the shutter, don't assume the camera has taken the picture just because you heard the click !

28 hours left to submit for this challenge.

Frankly, I'm disappointed.

Only two regular submitters have done so and all of their submissions were within 6 hours of my posting of this challenge.  I picked a topic and made that topic as broad as possible so as to generate submission, but I seem to have failed to generating much needed interest.

Please prove me wrong.
