Clean exterior of Sony Cybershot DSC-T110

A how-to question:

Looking for recommendations for cleaning the shiny sliding cover of the DSC-T110 Cybershot without ruining the finish. An alcohol wipe didn't do the job. Thanks.

Clean of what?

Those covers will easily show any scratches, dents or other signs of use. On the painted ones, the paint simply peels off. Can't fix those. I guess the chrome finish models can be restored by using aluminium polish, but who would bother?

If the surface is simply dirty, oily, etc(organic matter) you can use a cloth with a mild detergent to wipe it off. Non abrasive dish detergent works fine.

Re: Clean of what?

It's a sort of light grime, the kind you'd pick up from leaving the camera in a bag with a de-laminating interior. It's not food or oily, just a bit stubborn. Thanks for the suggestion of dish detergent. (This part of the camera has a shiny black painted finish, not the brushed-metal variety.)
