Is that the 2.8 Macro one? If I didn't have 3 lenses in/close to that FL I'd seriously look at picking one up. Not entirely sure 30mm would be long enough for macro -for me as a beginner anyway

Yes but not using it for macro table top and still life

for macro it has no working distance so only for objects not live things

Yes, that would be the macro lens.  It is a simple no-nonsense macro that produces good images.

I find it very useful mundanely as a lens to copy things that I wish to make a record of.

It is quite good as a copier of 3-D objects or even interesting newspaper articles that you wish to keep in a photographic scrapbook.

It is also quite a good normal lens in its own right.

It's the perfect macro lens for a beginner to this genre (if that is what you meant) - easier to use than the O60 and much more useful as a standard prime lens due to its shorter focal length - have a look at the photos herefor proof it can be used for a great deal more than as a copy lens and still-life lens

It would be the first thing I would buy again if all my gear got stolen!

It is a great lens without any drawbacks i am aware of. As long as you are not shooting live insects, it is great for all close up work. Often, flowers and other objects look nicer at 30mm than 60mm... more environmental.

I disagree entirely. The P30mm is quite capable of shooting live insects, even ones in flight. In many circumstances it is even better for this purpose than my copy of the Oly60mm.  Once you learn where to put yourself and the camera in regards to lighting, the P30 is a fine lens for insects. If you want some examples look here.

Why so many people continue to think the P30 is just a copy lens is beyond me. It is much more than that.

I think he meant something different i.e. you need to get very close if you want a frame filler

A wider lens makes it easier to find subjects but then if you crop the whole IQ drops

It can be tricky with very narrow depth of field getting it right. Generally I have to say the 60mm works well for that and I don't find the fov narrow. When I work with the 50-200mm and 2x tc is much harder so I tend to use on static subjects le dragonflies
