olympus ep5 dial skipping problem

i have a olympus ep5 which i bought secondhand for not very much and it has developed the dial skipping problem to the point of being borderline unusable.

the internet tells me that this is not a uncommon problem with the ep5 , and even sending it back to olympus for repair is not necessarily successful, as the problem can recur ,in my internet searching about this i came across someone with a different camera with a similar dial skipping  problem and they solved it by using a very small amount of non conductive electrical contact cleaning spray , !

I considered my ep5 broken and nothing i could do would make it more broken so i decided to try this , i used wd 40,,,,, ! and to be honest i expected it to do nothing at all or even damage the camera but ,,to my amazement ...  it worked ,,!!   no more skipping dials , the camera is working perfectly the dials are precise and feel better in operation than they ever have . now time will tell if there are any long term consequences in doing this as wd 40 is something i would normally  never allow anywhere near my photographic equipment ,but  it has worked for me the camera is a joy to use again .

now i am not recommending anyone else does this if you do its at your own risk , dont blame me if it goes wrong , i am not a expert ! all i am doing is putting my experience with this problem  out there , this worked for me and i have a fully usable camera again .perhaps ?  a very cheap and easy solution to this problem ?

Yep, did the same after reading about on this forum many years ago. Many voices were raised against doing so but it worked for me after exercising the dial - but you must careful to use a very small amount of oil.
