RF 16 2.8 - half fisheye?

I just saw my first raw files from R6 and 16 2.8 - the difference between JPEG and RAW reminds me of my fisheye lenses.

Comparison, focus to infinity 5.6

Close focus F2.8

The good things - it's a compact and sharp lens.

When I think of Fisheyes, I think of near or at 180 degrees field of view. This is not it lol but mine is coming on Friday and look forward to playing with it... I'm really curious with using for astrophotography. Sorta why I got it.

Thanks for posting...

I'm also curious about the astro capabilities, but the full moon is out

Yea and in southern Ohio, dark skies can be hard to find too but I will make due. But as you know it needs to be a new moon.

Not quite.  A week tomorrow the moon doesn't rise until after midnight, both in Sofia and in Ohio.  I'd love you to post an image with a bright star in the corner. I'm really interested as I sent my RF 35mm back because bright stars in the corners got turned into twitter logos.

A FF fisheye this size would be to die for (especially with F2.8 aperture)! I've used my EF8-15/4L as an extreme wide on occasions where bringing the EF11-24/4L was impractical. It yielded excellent sharp results after defishing with wider field of view than 11mm. Once in a while I've used the fisheye effect for the final output but that's not usually my thing.

Either way, thanks for sharing your results. Looking forward to seeing the great shots the DPR community will generate with this little gem. I got mine today and took it out for a quick try (it's overcast here). The excellent MFD allows unique compositions. Sorry not to have anything artistically interesting yet...

SOOC JPG

Hard to tell without doing a side-by-side but I think the RF14-35/4LIS has better color saturation. That said, I don't see any serious issues at all. Certainly doesn't seem to have that slight but noticeable yellow/green cast the RF50/1.8 suffers from (yea, I know it can be fixed in post).

Also, I didn't see anyone mention this but (not surprisingly) the RF50/1.8 hood fits this lens perfectly without any additional vignetting as far as I can tell.

Actually there is no firmware update for the camera.

The camera currently "doesn't know" the lens, so I guess the JPEGs will get better.

One cropped a bit.
