Canon Rebel T7, Sigma 150-600 C micro adjustment
1

Hello - I took my lens into a dealer because I thought it was front focusing and they adjusted all the settings to +5 (for all focal lengths/distance). It looks like it fixed the problem at the long focal lengths but now it lappears to be back focussing at the mid-range.

Pic 1: Focal length 420mm, distance > 15m, f/ 6.3 - this looks pretty sharp

Pic 2: Focal length 190mm, distance 5m (15ft approx), f/ 6.3

In the second photo, the branch behind the bird is sharp while the bird itself appears to be soft. I am pretty sure I focused on the bird (tried to get the eye).

Would setting the adjustments back to 0 for the mid-range (150 and 200mm focal length, 6 and 15m distance) help? I have the Sigma dock and the software so I can make the changes if it appears to be right thing to do.

Any help/guidance would be really appreciated. Thanks!

I don't have that lens, but I am using a Tamron 150-600mm lens.  I would suggest looking at a depth of field chart.  Because at the long end of the lens, the depth of field can be only a few inches or less (depending on many factors), I usually take pictures of birds at F9, F10 or F11.  Why do you use F6.3?  Also it depends on where it is focused on.  If I want two things to be in focus (that otherwise could be a problems with the depth of field), I'll focus in between them.

The soft focus was not at the long end of the lens but the mid-range (190mm vs 475mm). At the long end, the picture was pretty sharp. Both had the same aperture (f/6.3). Also, I'm pretty sure I focussed on the bird as there are a few more pics of the same bird with the same focus issue.

I keep the aperture as wide as possible but will see if narrowing it helps. I would not want to lose the bokeh though. Thanks.
