Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D - playback issues

I recently aquired an old 7D in very good condition cosmetically but there are two issues I haven't been able to solve.

1. When I turn on the camera it lets me take one exposure but it won't let me make a second one. It seems to just stop operating.

2. Any pictures taken under the above conditions do not appear on the playback screen.  All I see is shot info but no image.

The batteries I have are original _ 15 years old but take a charge and do power on the camera allowing for all menu access.

The memory card status is unknown but it's also original. No error messages appear  indicating any issues with it.

Before I buy new batteries and card how do I determine if they are the problem?

sounds like first frame black or dead shutter/dead sensor.
try to turn it off and on after the first photo, turn off stabilisation, take another photo.
you can also remove the lense, take a photo in bulb mode, and look for the mirror / shutter action.

It's just some glass, some silicon and magnesium. It isn't a religion.

+1 .

It's a common fault with 7d's and 5d's and their is no fix .

Sony stopped the repairs years ago ( after taking over from Minolta ) .

You can try giving the camera a whack against the hand , but I doubt it'll help .

It needs to returned for a refund if possible .

Even if you have a 7D (or 5D) that doesn't exhibit the problem, it can appear at any time ... and even if you could locate a service center to perform a repair, it could happen again.

Thanks.  I did take your suggestion and whacked it against my knee a few times.  Incredibly it seems to have worked.  I'm thinking it had some seized part from 15 years of non use and the whack-a-mole treatment loosened up whatever it was.

Good news .

Lack of use doesn't do cameras any good .

They all benefit from having a few shots fired off with them fairly frequently , keeps everything loose and moving .

If you keep it going you might find the first frame comes out blank every now and then , so fire a few test shots off before you start .
