If the Pro-4100 follows the general pattern of most recent-ish Canons, and you are using Windows, then in the Qimage Printers and Settings tab, click Properties, which should bring up the printer driver settings. There, under the Main tab set Color/Intensity to Manual, click Set..., in the Manual Color Adjustment dialog box go to the Matching tab, choose None, then OK your way out. Then back in Qimage you set Printer Profile to the correct ICC profile for the Pro-4100 with the desired paper and driver settings, or even use the Profile settings button to get to e.g. rendering intent selection.

Re: Canon Pro 4100 Driver Color Match Settings with Qimage

Can follow to Main tab of driver.  However, there is no Manual setting that I can see.  Instead, under Main, there is a COLOR MODE with a sub choice of COLOR SETTINGS with sub 1:Color Adust   2: Matching  3 Clear Coating.  Under 2 "Matching are the following: a Driver Matching, b ICC Profile Matching, c ICM,  d OFF

No problems with setting printer .icc in Qimage "Printer profile."  Just worried about the a, b, c settings above in combination with using a" printer profile" chosen in  Qimage

Have tried to get tech help from Canon by phone which is usually very, very, good.  In this case they just said it was a question for Qimage and am unable so far to get answer from them (again, usually great help).

With Windows you need to set Color Settings to OFF in the driver. This may be worded differently in different printer drivers. Qimage, like all good printing apps is designed to use Application Color Management, which means that the printer driver (and OS) is told to NOT do any ICC profile conversions as they have been done by the application under tighter control.

Got the answer, go try it.

Although I think ColourPhil is very likely correct--the setting for you to use is Matching -> Off--the obvious course of action is: try it. Take a known-good test file,* set the settings under consideration, and print it. Does it match what you see on a calibrated-and-profiled monitor with soft-proofing? If so, then the settings are almost certainly correct. If the print does not look correct, then try something different.

If Canon really told you this is a Qimage question / issue, then shame on Canon. The issue of what printer driver setting to use would be the same from Qimage, Lightroom, or any other color-managed software on a Windows computer.

*Preferably not one of your own images. I like Bill Atrkinson's print test image. A version of it, sized for letter or A4 paper, as a JPEG in sRGB, can be downloaded from my post at https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/61518002, or directly from https://3.img-dpreview.com/files/p/E~forums/61518002/5c6d44c0cad041c7bcc6572f2e140381.

Hi,

To be fair to Canon I could see why they would avoid wanting to describe setting up a wide range of apps. That said, support should be able to answer the question of how to configure the printer for an ICC colour managed application.

Canon do describe working with ICC profiles, but it is a little buried in the manual:

https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/PrinterDriver/W/PRO-4100/1.0/EN/PPG/dg-c_color_correction03.html

For your case its the top one (ICC capable app) of the two cases on that page. You should see they say to set 'Color Correction' off in step 4. Hope the alleviates your concern.

Documentation on the other options is here:

https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/PrinterDriver/W/PRO-4100/1.0/EN/PPG/dg-c_color_correction.html

I personally always found the word off a little misleading in this situation, but it’s hard to come up with something better that conveys the concepts succinctly and ideally in a universal way. It took root when there were less ICC enabled apps and app print dialogs were less integrated. This could lead to people not configuring the print chain correctly, leading to issues such as double conversions. Setting off in the driver was a way for the user to communicate (realise) that input to output ICC conversion was being done in the app and so didn't need to be done again in the driver.

Somewhat misleading, as the driver or printer will still do major colour management with all four of the colour correction options, including off. As it must convert from the RGB provided by the app to the N-colour needed by the printer.

Take a look through Jose Rodriguez's videos on YouTube.  You have to pick and choose but he goes through settings in the Windows driver quite often.

Good luck.

The "color settings" button is in the Main part of the print settings menu. Click on the "matching" tab, and make sure color correction is OFF. You should be good to go then.
