R6: Viewfinder ON when display off and no eye behind it ?

When using the R6 for astrophotography, I use an Android app 'DSLR Dashboard' where the camera is connected via USB. Works flawlessly, so I don't need the display of the camera. So then I reverse the display of the camera so it is turned off anyway to conserve battery power.
But in that case the viewfinder is turned on (showing a timer) during bulb exposure even when no eye is behind it and display is set to screen only (which is collapsed). This wastes the battery and I don't need it, as the same timer is shown on the Android screen (or an external intervalometer if I use that).
Anybody have the same issue ?

Re: R6: Viewfinder ON when display off and no eye behind it ?

Hi,

I just opened a dedicated thread since similar questions turned up several times already.

Short answer:

When folding in the LCD, make sure it shows to the outside. Then all displays are turned OFF and only the EVF turns on in case you approach the eye-sensor. This needs a little preconfig, see the other thread.

Hope this helps!
