Misty lake with M50 and 15-45 + 55-250

I took a walk near a local lake just after sunrise this morning, in time to photograph some nice light and mist. Telephoto lenses are underrated for landscape photography, IMO. I was glad to have both wide angle and telephoto. I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Beautiful photos. This is probably the most underrated kit in 2021. I have a ff camera but I am always reaching to my M50 for most of my photography.

Thanks! It's one of the best values too. I got my M50 + 15-45 refurbished for $395 and the 55-250 for $165 in like new condition.

Put more contrast into the treeline and you’ll have a winner (market it). Centered works well here because of the split between sunny and shaded! Nice shooting.

Do you think the 15-45 is a better lens for landscape photography than the 18-150?

Thanks for the suggestion. How is this version? I added global contrast and lifted shadows less. I like the contrast in the treeline, but it makes the mist stand out a bit less. I might try just adding contrast to the treeline rather than the global adjustment, but that will have to wait until later.

(I) do like it better.

Right.  Due to being a Global adjustment.

I did a quick down and dirty edit if you'd like to see it...

Fine if not!

Hi Karen,

I do like to get all the way down to 15mm (esp since I sold my 11-22!).  And a (good) copy of the 15-45 is Really Good at the wide end.  A lot depends on how much you like to do tele-landscapes too.  If you're also including city-scapes in here, then the 18-150 is very very versatile.

Just a down and dirty (muddy) edit to reduce the trees on the left, and bring up the colors a tad (about what you did  )...

I still think you should get this published!

Here's my final edit. I lifted shadows and then added contrast back into just the treeline, plus bumped the lightness and saturation of the purples and pinks a little to accentuate the mist. It's pretty similar to yours, I guess.

I still think you should get this published!

R2

That's high praise! But, where?

Perfect for an outdoor magazine or parks dept. or chamber of commerce!  Lots of space for text.  Folks would gobble it up.

Good luck!

Squinty Apertures Rule!

Gorgeous photos and more support for my decision to ignore the fear mongering about any aperture smaller than f/8 causing ruinous diffraction on an APS-C camera.

Diffraction is a moot point if part of the landscape is out of focus! You're right, though: if there's diffraction here, it certainly didn't ruin these photos, even stopping down to f/14. I probably could have gotten away with wider apertures for some of these and still had everything in focus, but for many of them, I didn't have time to do DOF calculations. That certainly applies to the ones with the geese flying and the kayaker, anyway. Thanks for the comments.

I had some fun with Gimp today making the geese larger by 50% and centering them. Maybe it's cheating, but I like this version better. What do you think? (Yes, I did reprocess the rest of the photo too since the original post and ended up with something a bit more saturated. I think it may be a little overdone. But I do like the balance better with the geese like this.)
