Canon EOS M6 Mark II - Exposure button not working?
1

Is there something odd I did to a setting?

I'm used to my M3 with the fun dial for exposure changes.  So I went ahead and assigned the back dial for it... but it does nothing.  I also noticed when I push on the small +/- button on the same dial it doesn't work.  What setting do I need to change so I can actually have control over the auto metering?  Its really annoying!

I have the camera in "manual" now.  I feel like I must have accidentally changed a setting?  All the other buttons work just fine.  When I go to take a photo its like its auto compensating the exposure (which I don't want it to do- I want to control it myself).

HELP PLEASE

You say you are in "manual". You mean you have the mode dial set to M on top? So you are setting the exposure and shutter speed manually? What about the ISO? If your ISO is fixed, the exposure compensation dial will have nothing to do. It only works to modify exposure when at least one of the three variables (shutter speed, aperture, ISO) is set to auto.

As the length of a thread approaches 150, the probability that someone will make the obvious "it's not the camera, it's the photographer" remark approaches 1.

A guess: I think the rear dial can be easily/quickly set to change flash exposure compensation, so maybe that's where you've ended up?

Hello,

I followed your steps and assigned "exposure compens." to the back button, but I remembered from my G5X that Exposure compensation does not work in Manual mode. When I switched to Av, Tv, P or Fv mode the Exposure compensation works perfectly.

really?  That is kind of sad.  On my M3 I was still able to adjust it.  Very annoying....

The only way exposure compensation can change anything in M mode is if you are using Auto ISO.  Can you still count automatic exposure by Auto ISO as manual?
