Godox issues with the R5 are only if TTL and HSS are used at the same time, right?

I know this is and old thread but was hoping it's still alive. I have been using the V1-c with an R5 and this issue explains a lot, as I use HSS regularly. I was just putting the inconsistent results down to the flash itself. My question, if anyone here knows, does the V860III have the same issues with the R5 and HSS? I am thinking of getting another flash that I can use in the situations I need TTL & HSS. Thanks

I think the issue was in the trigger, not in the specific flash. And the new version of the trigger still has some issues, though may be different ones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPBaE01ospQ

Personally I am starting to look into Westcott because of all this.

Just be aware the Westcott FJ / Rollei Freeze systems are a rebrand of (and tweaked to be made incompatible with) the Jinbei RT system. And that Jinbei's gear also exhibits the same underexposure-with-TTL Sony issue that Godox gear does. Just saying. They have at least one of the same bugs that Godox does.

Rumor is that the new XPro II-C may have a fix for the TTL+HSS bug; but I haven't seen any tested confirmation of that. No idea of the status of the Err70 bug R3/R7/R10 users are seeing with single-point AF, either.

Yes, the newest trigger from Godox does in-fact fix the problem. I received it about 2 weeks ago, and can confirm HSS & TTL 100% work together perfectly on the R5.

So I do not think Godox will ever update the firmware on the older triggers. Their solution will be for everyone to just buy the new trigger.

I was aware Westcott is a rebrand of Jinbei but have no issues with that.

I am, however, very interested to learn more about Westcott underexposure issue. Can you share some links with more information? Is it specific to Sony (I shoot Canon)?

It's specific to Sony.  TTL underexposes if used with apertures wider than f/4.

I don't see any reference to Westcott or Jinbei in this thread.

100%

I'm not complaining. I just see in lots of forums people asking about a firmware update for 2 years now, to get TTL & HSS working together . A godox remote might be one the cheapest accessories in the photography world.

If someone really really needs that function, $89 gives it to you right now.

Sorry. Thought you were asking about the Godox bug.

As I recall, a user named deejjjaaaa on POTN complained about this bughappening both with the Flashpoint and Orlit (Adorama's house rebrand for the Jinbei RT system before Westcott became the exclusive US distributor of Jinbei) gear loudly, obnoxiously, repeatedly ad nauseum to the point of getting banned on POTN. So finding their actual testing is kind of hard. But what I remember from that time is simply that Jinbei and Godox were exhibiting the same issue, so it was likely on the Sony side of the fence that the problem existed. AFAIK, none of the Sony users were saying that the Jinbei RT gear had fixed the issue for them. Both Jinbei and Godox did issue firmware updates to try and correct it, but as far as I can recall, it never worked.

Also, iirc, Rollei at least had some message up when they first began rolling out their rebrand of the Jinbei RT gear that the R5 and R6 had issues with TTL/HSS with the system. They then took that down, so maybe they do have a firmware fix for it, but Jinbei experience is relatively thin on the ground on online messageboards. And I have yet to see R5/R6 users saying that the Jinbei/Westcott system has fixed the TTL+HSS issue.

Which is why I was saying, do some research or ask them directly before purchasing.

Which flash model are you using successfully with the new trigger and what settings are you using?

I’m just testing the new trigger with an R6 and TT685iiC but the HSS/TTL problem still exists.

Thanks

I am using the new Godox XPro II trigger on a Canon R5 with AD300pro flashes off camera, and the TTL & HSS works flawlessly together.

Up until 2 weeks ago, I was using the Godox XPro trigger for the past 2 years, and HSS & TTL never worked simultaneously.

So Version II definitely fixed the issue.

That’s interesting. It definitely isn’t working any different to the original Xpro trigger with the TT685ii C or the TT685C on my R6. HSS with TTL just results in grossly overexposed images.

The first 2 things to come to my mind for you to try would be.....

One, see if those flashes have firmware updates available?

And two, in the menu of the trigger, you are supposed to select what model flash you are using, so make sure you have TT685 selected.

Thats all I can think of. Hopefully 1 of those things helps.

In addition to Dustman's advice to check the Godox firmware updates (probably won't be one for the TT685 II-C), I'd also say... consider checking the firmware version on your R6. There was a firmware version (1.2.0) that updated the flash communication protocol for compatibility with some new EL-1 functions, and the Xpro II might be using a reverse-engineered version of that newer protocol.

Thanks for the suggestions Dustman and kli, though I've tried those suggestions with no success. There aren't any firmware updates for the XProii or the TT685ii that I could find and the camera has latest firmware installed. Back to square one I guess!

Crap.  Was really hoping the XPro II fixed the issue for everyone.

Just me, but send an email/bug report to Godox technical support. They can't fix bugs they don't know about. And if they do know about it, it will at least show them someone cares about the issue.

I rang Godox UK to ask for help but they told me

”We are not selling the Xpro ii triggers, you will have to contact the company you purchased it from for assistance”

They didn’t even ask me what the problem was!

Godox UK is basically just a distributor/retailer, they're not Godox in Shenzhen China.

And I meant just shoot godox support (servicesupport@godox.com) an email. Their English isn't great (though far better than my Chinese), but they do sometimes respond.
