DIGITAL DOWNLOADS

After editing and finalizing my video project, how can I make a digital version for sale/distribution INSTEAD of a DVD? What program or service can I use and what format do I create the file to accomplish this. Please help.

Re: DIGITAL DOWNLOADS

As this is driven by a client request why not start by asking if they have a favourite way of receiving large files?

If I need to send more than a few megabytes I generally use one of the services like Dropbox. Typically they are free for uploads smaller than about 2 GB and pretty reasonable for anything bigger.

Google 'large file transfer'.

As for what file format, that should be agreed with the client; it has no bearing on how you transmit the files.

By the way, there is a Video forum. Cross posting a question to multiple forums is generally seen as bad practice.

How come you posted the same thing afterwards in the Open Talk forum and didn't even cross-reference it with this thread? Here:

Now you have left yourself open for two sets of replies. Tell a moderator to close this thread, and next time do some housekeeping.

I'm assuming you have digital files that you are using to create the DVD... if someone else is doing the conversion, there's a free program called Handbrake that will convert DVDs to various video formats. It is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

It may be helpful to know what software you're using now (name and version). I've been doing simple personal & work projects for years and can't remember any video editing software that couldn't output/render a project to a plain ol' video file in some format.

I currently use CyberLink PowerDirector only because I used it at work before I retired, I'm familiar with it, and it's not terribly expensive. There are probably hundreds of other choices for you.

I use Premiere Elements for my video projects.  It gives you the option to output videos to various formats.

Doesn't it just show a load of confusion and a lack of forum etiquette

Yes but they are new here so perhaps some slack we should cut.
