Nikon D500 + 200-500mm f/5.6 lots of wildlife around my house
13

For the last couple of weeks I have been playing around with my new D500 and Nikon superzoom lens. What a beast of a machine, what a combination! Most of these shots have been taken from my (home) office window in the attic of my house. Talk about being lazy! I am only now starting to realize everything that's going on in and around my garden.

Everything was done using manual exposure and auto-ISO up to 6400 (to control the shutter speed). Post processing in lightroom and Topaz denoise AI.

Nice pictures. I'm particularly curious what you did for getting the in-focus shot on that flying bird. Did you do a burst of shots? What focus setting were you using?

Great set of pictures. Lucky that you have such variety of species near by.

Thanks,

Continuous AF using the back button (I turned off AF on shutter button press), AF-9 mode, press the button, try to keep the subject in the frame, and hope for the best. I'm still learning, so maybe there's a better way to do it.

Love the photos. I too have this lens but haven't really used it a ton. This will change soon enough.

On my AK cruise I am on now, I've reached for the D500 more than I have my Z6 or Z7II.

Gotta love a D500 even though I can quickly switch the Z7II to DX mode, I just really like how easy the D500 is to use.

Great images and we are both very lucky because here  in Australia I live on a small property that has very similar wildlife as in the birds and Hares, Kangaroos obviously and unfortunately big Brown Snakes one of which attacked my Ride on Lawnmower yesterday. Boy it was fast, it reared up near my leg but fortunately for me it went in the opposite direction.

I have just been out with the same camera and lens that you are using.  I noticed that the same breeding pair of Kestrels  are nesting again in the same tree as last year.
