Sigma 70-200 compatability with d7500

Hi guys.

So I recently purchased a sigma ex 70-200mm f2.8 apo hsm for my wife who uses a nikon d7500. I was told they were compatible.

So I went ahead and tried it out. Yes it focuses via the focal lens. But as soon as I turn it to live view focus. It stops focusing not all together but shunts down from infinite to max focus. It never actually focuses on the subject.

I'm rather disappointed as I was told it was compatible but I'm unsure what to do. I have tried updating the firmware via the USB Dock but that doesn't even register the lens being attached.

Any help would be awesome as I'd rather not sell it back.

If I do have to any idea which lenses actually work with live view focus?

Thanks in advance

Typically Nikon Live view is not great even with Nikon lenses. If you can try the lens on another body or if you can try another sample of the lens to rule out a defective lens. I've had 3 and now 2 sigma lenses with no issues though I seldom use live view.

Re: Sigma 70-200 compatability with d7500

What you have found is basically normal for a certain generation of older Sigma lenses.  I have a 10-20mm which does exactly the same thing on a D7000 and newer.  The Sigma dock won't do you any good as those generations of lenses came out before the dock.

You may be able to reach out to Sigma to see if they have a firmware update they can apply which will address the problem.  Unfortunately, you will need to drop that lens off at a Sigma service centre to get the firmware updated if it exists.

This is one of the hazards of buying 3rd party lenses.
