Fuji S5 Pro - is good for used 'till today times (like hobby)?

I have been looking for, with great interest, things about Fujifilm Finepix S5 Pro DSLR Body. I think in to acquise one, for my hobbies. Does anyone have anything to say about this camera? In practice, what are the differences between it and the Nikon D200?

I would say yes.  If you know what it's limits are vs. modern hardware.

It makes great pics for me.  I use it mostly attached to a 70-200 but really nice 35mm Nikkor make great baby pics too.

I pretend to use for manual AIs lenses and occasionally with the AF-D 24mm f2.8 or 35mm f2.

Maybe a little off your topic but, i use a S3PRO for grainy black and whites and love the results and the camera. I have on my wall a picture from a S3PRO 20x30 inch, and another from a sony A7R11 same size. Recently a friend (EX pro newspaper photographer) was shocked he couldn't say which was which at a distance of 4-6 feet away.

I used the D200 for many years and it's a very capable camera.  It's limitation is high ISO is noisy so you need fast glass in dark places.  On the topic of glass and this is about your S5 Pro as well.  There is a huge amount of used Nikon lenses available and there bargens.

All my lenses are AF type.  No real issues.

I did borrow a friends NIKON 24-70 it missed or back focused or something more than I thought it would.  I should have practiced with it.

That 24-70 may need to be AF fine tuned which is not available on your body.

Perhaps fPrime will chime in as he owns both cameras.

I am familiar with the D40 of the same era with the lower resolution CCD sensor but has a much weaker AA filter compared to the D200.

If you come across a minty example of the S5, definitely grab it.

You will enjoy the great CCD colors with superior dynamic range and texture in the highlights. It is difficult to blow the highlights with the S5, a huge advantage over other CCD sensors. It is a fantastic camera for portraits as well and not too shabby for black and white photography.

Have fun,

Serge

The S5 is a great camera, which I used for 6 years. The main differences between the S5 and the D200 is the Super CCD sensor. The S5 has a much higher DR way it works. Each pixel has actually has two sensors -- a large 'S' sensor that records normal light, and a small 'R' sensor that records only bright lights.

In addition, the way how Fuji reproduces colors is superior compared to the D200. You can compensate this disadvantage of the Nikon by using custom color profiles.

BTW: I switched from Fuji S5 to Nikon D600, D800 and D850 (the last two I still own) and then acquired a Fuji X-T1 for fun. In the meantime I mainly use a Fuji X-T3 and Fuji X-T4 and very seldom the Nikons.

Best regards
Michael

In my humble opinion both the D200 and S5 Pro are CCD color kings in their own right. Because of its skin tone color science I consider the S5 Pro to be slightly better for photographing people while, thanks to its higher resolution, the D200 is slightly better for photographing landscapes.

Is it still worth it to shoot the S5 Pro in 2021? Absolutely! There’s a certain image magic to the output of this camera that is both filmic and almost surreal. I kid you not when I say that I would not trade my S5 Pro for a GFX 100. The latter is a digital device that records digital images at high resolution, the former is an analog device that draws images with passion, fire, and life.

So, I have one 17-55mm 2.8 Nikkor-G, too. But in my hobby I use Primes Lenses, for practiques. I created one big espectative for the colors of this camera, after to read some articles about the SuperCCD into her, talking like being amazing. I want try too,

Nice to read this!! Recently I compared some pictures mades With my D200 with one lot of pictures with almost my atual cameras (includes X-Pro1 and X100T) and I couldn't see very hard differences after pictures editions was finalized. The cares process was the same in RAW files of boths and the results are very closes.

Grateful!! I have some manual AIs Nikkor lenses (and others, of third parts, but with FX-mounts), primes in most, besides some AF equality Primes. That glasses are speeds (includes 1.2/55mm Nikkor AI and 1.8/105mm). What do you think? Can I play right with ISO's of both bodies when using this lenses? Or, will i need something better?

I had the X-T1. Great camera, but when I saw the colors of X-Pro1 I chose it this. Today, I almost neither remember that had one X-T1.

This is all of I was needed read. 'Cos in my photographich hobby I search the passion great more than technological performances. In the D200 I found this and I want to explorate the same fire in S5 Pro too.

Grateful!

I owned the S1/2/3 and 5 in the 2000’s. I was an aerial photographer and shot both Nikon and Fujifilm, since they shared lenses. I don’t remember a lot of details from those years, but there was one customer who took the time to write and say “Wow, those colors!” from the S3, I believe. Yes, those cameras made some excellent photos.

I had two copies of that camera.  Both exhibited severe auto white balance problems. Way to warm in most cases.

I always shoot RAW and if I don't like the white balance, I set it. What software were you processing with?  It may have been during the Nikon Adobe spat when Nikon encrypted the exif data.  Annoying, I always found it a bit magenta yet when white balance set manually the color was great.
