Availability of 27mm f/2.8 WR?

Has anyone else placed an order for the new version of Fuji’s 27mm pancake that’s been on backorder for months?

Someone ordered this as a (very thoughtful!) gift for me over 4 months ago from B&H and still no sign of it. I know Fuji put out an advisory awhile ago that some cameras and lenses were delayed because of missing components (I’m assuming supply chain issues related to COVID?) but nothing that included the 27.

Anyone have any info?

I've been waiting to order one since it was officially released. It's long delayed due to worldwide supply chain problems, simple as that. Nobody seems to have any real news, and frankly I don't expect any. One day it will just  suddenly be listed as in stock. Maybe there will be some warning as preorders start to get filled from the first shipments to arrive and people report receiving them.

I never preorder but in this case I sort of wish I had, if only to stop myself from checking more than a couple times a week.

In March, just after the release of the lens, Fuji specifically put out a press release that they underestimated demand and are expecting supply issues. Here's the translation of their statement:

Dear Customers

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued patronage of Fujifilm products. We have received more orders than expected for the FUJINON lens "XF27mmF2.8 R WR", which will be released on March 11 (Thu.), and the number of orders has exceeded the prepared quantity. As a result, it may take some time before we are able to deliver your order.

We will do our best to meet your pre-orders as soon as possible, and we thank you for your understanding.

With the continued supply chain disruption, it appears the supply for the 27/2.8 WR hasn't really recovered. Stock that might come in is likely being gobbled up by pre-orders. It might be a while until we see this lens on the shelf.

I have noticed that some people go as far as buying camera-lens kits that include the 27/2.8 WR, just to sell off an unused body. Not an option for you, I understand, but it shows how difficult it is to get that lens right now.

I suspect that in addition to chip and supply chain challenges, they are fulfilling XE4 kit orders first.

Just to make you envious and whet your appetite for the new 27, I have it already! It's a great lens, especially with an XE body.

Have patience, it'll come and it'll be worth the wait.

I wanted a 50-140 and had to cancel, want a 70-300 and it’s not available....and also it seems this 27 too.  What is going on! I know its supply chain issues, but its frustrating!

Maybe grab a used one, or used 27mm mk1 (none WR) for short term?

just create an in stock alert on B&H.

I have been looking regularly for a used mk 2 and have not found any available from sources I trust.

My mk1 continues to please on my X- M1.  This combination is close to perfectly matched.

Too lazy, probably. Sort of enjoying my two or three times a week ritual check-in ...

Try Amazon.  I tied B&H back in May or so.  It had not appeared by the first of Aug.  I cancelled the B&H order.  It showed out of stock on Amazon but I ordered anyway, knowing I could cancel.  About a week afterwards, I get an email from Amazon that it was in and my copy was on its way.  It arrived in a couple days.  So my suspicion is because of supply chain issues, this lens is dribbling off the line and B&H is not that high on the priority list compared to Amazon.  So getting in line at Amazon paid off for me.

I heard Amazon has stopped taking preorders, but that may just be a rumor.  (I don't do Amazon so I can't check.)

Crap. I think that’s a long time to wait. I ordered mine from B&H and I was charged for it. I’d rather cancel my order and have my money back to use for something else.

Amazon.com in the USA does not list the XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR for sale. You can't even search for it on Amazon.com.

With what going on with supply chains, it will be difficult even for your retailer to predict - reliably, anyway - when and how many units they'll get in. This is particularly more complex when there are distributors, wholesalers, etc involved.
