What color do you prefer?
1

This is a face crop from a picture taken in mixed lighting, developed using the default settings in some of the most common raw developer software (including lightroom, Capture One, DPP and DxO Photolab), together with some custom profiles.

I am interested to see what color is seen as more pleasant by you guys.

Re: What color do you prefer?

Are any JPEG straight from the camera or processed with Canon's DPP?

If not, I would be very interested to see another "vote" where there were 4-5 shots SOOC or processed with DPP using the Canon camera profiles. eg Standard, Vivid, Faithful, Portrait. Mixed among RAW with 3rd party processing software like you've just done.

One of them is developed in DPP with the in camera settings (standard PP, standard ALO), and I just checked with the original jpg and they are almost exactly the same, but there are very slight differences indeed. The original jpg OOC is not posted here.

Re: What color do you prefer?

I chose # 7 but I was in a minority. I found # 1 the least appealing and wasn't very fond of #' 2, 3, 6 or 9, but 9 was the top "vote getter" so bottom line is don't pay any attention to me.

Subtle color differences like this are totally subjective.  There is no "right" answer.

Is there a "none of the above?" They are all too orange.

Yes Way Too Orange (too much red and not enough blue)

I just did a quick play around with it in Photoshop, adjusting for #7. I started by picking the white balance based on the blackish horizontal bars in the background and then tweak the red and blue curves. It is not perfect, but at least she does not look like she is working for Willy Wonka.

Quick adjustment with curves for #7

Below are the adjustment curves. Note a pretty severe difference in red.

I am sorry but I much prefer the original toning. Not always the technically correct is the beautiful, and especially when you mix indoor lighting with flash. I think Canon AWB does a great job most of the time maintaining a good atmosphere in the pictures. Your correction looks super dull and green to my eyes.

OK, time to post what image corresponds to what software/profile

1. Adobe Color profile (lightroom)

2. Paid profile previous version (lightroom)

3. Paid profile latest version (lightroom)

4. DxO photolab

5. Capture One generic profile

6. Capture One ProStandard profile

7. DPP (Digigal Photo Professional, Canon)

8. My color profile/preset v3

9. My color profile/preset v4

Happy to see how my presets are the chosen ones by the majority of people here, even over DPP. They are my favourites for me as well, together with DPP.

Looks like you guys need to get your screens calibrated. All examples so far have weaknesses on my Eizo. The second adjusted set look abso'lut'ely terrible.

Then again, it's compressed visuals, on a forum, on the internet.

Of the original OP 6 looks the best but also with a hint of green, albeit slight. It was a toss up between 6 or 5.

That is why it's impossible to do a skin_tune on our computer.

Original photo may be reddish/yellowish (warm) to you,and yours are blue-ish/greenish (cold) to others.

Ours eyes are born of super sensitive to young woman /man skin tone for natural reason.

If the raw is green-ish or yellow- ish, basically means some of the color is missing and some of the color is extra (artificial).

Surprisely this wrong coloring is fixed by hardware (Sensor) and in fact there is no way to fine-tune or repair it. It's becaus nobody knows which color is missing and which color is extra. Otherwise the manufacturer can do it perfectly with the camera internal image processing.

We, common users, can not do the job that manufacturer cannot do. we don't have perfect monitor, and color science knowledge.

That’s such a loaded question. Without knowing what the original real color is or what the intended use is, maybe none of those colors is close to “right”.

When in doubt, turn it to Black & White and pop the contrast.

I choosed 7 which is the best IMO.

7 has the best skin tone and favorite lips color.

And is the least overexposure of the right cheek.

DPP is the best.

Can I ask, which most faithfully represents the real life hair color?
