DIY Universal Lens Support Bracket for tripod/monopod

It gets the job done!

TL/DR:
I've built a DIY telephoto lens support bracket that provides lenses without a support bracket a way to attach to a tripod/monopod. I'm sharing the plans here for free.

Features:

  • 1/4" UNC connection for most tripods/monopods.
  • DIY manufacturing costs under $20 and ~4 hours.
  • Freedom to modify the design to suit your particular lens.

Why?
Because cost is a big issue for amateur photographers and I believe that art and creativity shouldn't have big entry barriers, but rather be as accessible as possible.

A few years ago I was gifted a used mid-range telephoto lens, a Minolta Beercan. This is a very heavy lens and has no tripod/monopod bracket and means I had to handhold this entire setup during entire nature photography field trips. Outcome = Blurry pictures.
Third-party sleeve attachments are in the $100+ range and often fit few select lenses.

This attachment resolves this issue. Its price effective, easy to manufacture and modify, and available to everyone for free!

Original prototype pictures are attached. See the plans link for building drawings and details.
