Cross compatibility of Olympus lenses with Panasonic bodies
1

Hello.

When shooting a Lumix camera with an Olympus lens, will the Lumix bodies (all/some/none) fully support lens correction profiles, to remote distortion and purple fringing, for example?

I have been offered a set that consist Lumix G80, and lenses m.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 and m.Zuiko 75mm f/1.8.

I already know that 12-40's Fn-button doesn't work with Lumix bodies but that doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that if G80 can't read/write the correction profiles of these two lenses.

ANSWER:

Yes, the correction information is resident in the lens and won't be altered by the Panny body. I happen to love using the 75 on the GM5.

Cheers,

Rick

Well, my Oly pro 12-100 and the Oly pro 40-150 work superbly on my G9. Not sure if the lens correction is being applied but I have never seen any artifacts that suggest the corrections are not taking place. I suppose a WA lens might be a different matter.

Add the Olympus 12/2.0 Limited - works fine, quite rectilinear, and I know that it requires firmware correction.   In fact I believe that the firmware correction detail is included in the M4/3 specification.

I also have the 75, 12-100, and 40-150 (also 45/1.8 and probably others) and can confirm that AF seems to work just as well as native Panasonic lenses (DFD or no DFD).

As mentioned, all corrections work.

In my case the other way 'round where I use Panasonic lenses on Olympus bodies.

Even better is to shoot raw files and use DxO Photolab4 where they use their own laboratory derived correction profiles for body+lens combinations that actually work a bit better than the canned corrections coming from the lenses.

They all work very well and I know that from first hand user exprience.

The lens function button also works to a limited degree on some Panasonic cameras. This is from my GX9 manual

[Lens Fn Button Setting]
Sets the function to be assigned to the focus button of an interchangeable lens.
• You can call up the assigned function by setting the focus selector switch of a
compatible interchangeable lens to [Fn] and then pressing the focus button of the lens.
Settings: [Focus Stop] / [AF/AE LOCK] / [AF-ON] / [Stabilizer] / [Focus Area Set] /
[AF Mode/MF] / [Preview] / [Off] / [Restore to Default]
●When [Focus Stop] is used, the focus is locked while the focus button is pressed and held.

Everything works fine, and certainly with the G9 and the 300 you can use the function button. The G80 is a great camera.

As others have said, the lens corrections work fine. The 12-40mm f2.8 is a cracking lens, the constant f2.8 is what sold the lens to me., hence, I recently bought one and use it on G80. The manual clutch is a very nice feature and works well. A few G80 + 12-40mm images here https://www.flickr.com/photos/dieselgolfer/albums/72157719661820874/with/51399253927/

The G80 is a great camera too,  fully featured and relatively compact.
