Fantastic sharp lens. The aperture being 7.1 on the long end does not bother me since I rarely go out on mostly cloudy days. The only thing I don’t like is that the lens does not collapse completely when I have the RF1.4x teleconverter attached. Pictures are also very sharp with the teleconverter

I have a question about that. With the converter I have read like you mentioned about you can't go wider than 300mm? so is there a safety built into the lens to keep you from trying to zoom back when the converter is attached? Or is it possible with the camera to the eye and you try to zoom back fast you will crash the converter into the real element and do damage?

There's an internal stop.  No issues.

Absolutely not problem as there is a solid internal stop.   It is great awesome lens but the reduction of zoom range is annoying.   I have both RF 1.4X and 2X TCs.  the IQ is excellent with the 2X but there is more difficult autofocussing in low light since there is 2 stops less light.  Not a great problem when there is plenty of light.  It can be an issue but no lens is perfect.  You can always get a 600f4 with at 2X if you are troubled by it.

Re: Awesome

I was told there is a safety. Don’t’ know how true that is. The teleconverter actually has a section that is about an inch long that protrudes into the lens when you mount it. That section has a hard rubber ring on the front edge/ring. All of that keeps the actual lens from retracting completely and protects the glass on the teleconverter and lens.
