Samsung tab s7 photo editing

Would you recommend  samsung tab s7 for photo editing

Re: Samsung tab s7 photo editing

Depends on how much editing you want to do and what your overall workflow plans are.  Do you intend this to be your primary editing platform?  Or is it only for quick and casual use while traveling?  What are you working from, RAW or jpeg?  What type of volume of photos are you expecting to work with; dozens, hundreds, thousands?  Are you used to using another platform and OS for your editing currently?

I use my S7+ when I travel and find it just fine for that.  It could likely work as my primary platform if I put my mind towards that goal.  I will say this is about my 5th or 6th Samsung tablet I have carried for this purpose and overall the experience has improved with each device and OS generation.  And the apps have expanded their capabilities as well.  I have also used my iPad Pro 11" for the same purpose.  Both systems have pluses and minuses.  The iPad's biggest plus is probably the better Adobe app feature sets on iOS compared to Android.  Storage capacity and general file handling are probably the minuses.  Personal preference I prefer the S pen form and feel over the Apple pencil.  Android is a lot more flexible when it comes to storage space and file handling.  I have a 512GB microSD in my 256GB S7+, so plenty of storage.

I also intend to get the Tab S7 for light mostly photo editing during travel. I am already using Snapseed on android with Raw files and it works fine.

Since it seems you have some expierence with it. Do you also use the S7 for video editing? Does it work fine? 4k?

Sorry, but I rarely take video. Never edit it.

Thanks for your answer anyway.

since you have both (I have a an iPad 10.5 Pro), could you say how the performance and battery life are for the S7+ vs the iPad?

I'm a bit shocked at how relatively poor the battery is on my 10.5"  iPad Pro when editing on the road. I'm considering switching to a Samsung if the battery life is any good. Reports are the S7 (11" LCD) vs the 12.4" OLED S7+ is much better so that's probably what I'd look at since the CPU is the same.

I have found that the battery life of the iPad has been highly variable. Each OS update seems to cause substantial differences, sometimes better, sufferings worse. IOS seems to do better at holding a charge when the device is in sleep mode.  In use it seems to run down slightly faster.  This might not be a fair comparison since my iPad is about a year older than my Tab S7+.  My older Tab S6 seems to run down about the same rate as my iPad Pro.  I also have a newer iPad Air that I use for work.  That one seems slightly better on battery life than the older Pro. I would be interested to see how the new M1 based iPads fair.

I had been look at upgrading the 10.5 iPad Pro to one of the 11 Pro variants, but the fact that Apple hamstrings them with only 4GB of RAM I find troubling. They are just starting to move beyond that now (the 6GB 1TB iPad 11 Pro being the exception) and allowing app's to have access to more RAM with iPad OS 15 (though Lightroom seems to behave OK with what they are given currently).

the Samsung S7's come with 8 GB and Android doesn't limit the app space in the same way so there is more room for growth. that's why I'm tempted to go that route for a while instead. Adobe seems to be better these days with keeping Android more on par with app features on the two platforms.

so you would say you're getting similar battery life with the S7+ and the iPads?

Since I do not use my work iPad for the same types of tasks as my personal S7+ it's a little difficult to be definitive.  However, based on a day of heavy usage of each I think they are not far apart.  My iPad Air is mostly used for Teams meetings via WiFi.  On days where I have 4-5 solid hours of meetings I see it drop down below 30% battery.  A full day of use on my S7+ rarely sees it fall below 30%, but that might be lots of web browsing, some light photo editing in Snapseed and maybe a little bit of video consumption via the web.  It is rare that I spend a lot of time running Lightroom.  That happens mainly when I am traveling.  I do suspect that the new M1 based iPads would do much better.  The goal on that chipset was performance at the lowest power consumption.

Appreciate the response!

the only decent metric I've found was from Laptop Mag where they run all their tablets on a web loop. The S7 was over 13 hours, S7+ just under 9 hours (that big OLED has a downside). I think the 2020 iPad Pro 11 was around 10.5 hours. Because of this I just ordered a (used) S7 to try out. Just looking for something to travel with where I can ingest photos and do some Lightroom editing. The 10.5" iPad Pro I have for this is just meh, the file management is just goofy and I'm not impressed with the battery life at all.

My one software suggestion is to install "CX File Explorer".  So far it seems to be the best at managing memory cards or drives attached via USB.  I use it to review my photos after a trip. I often load a thumb drive with all my jpeg file versions so I can sit and sort through them  on the tablet.  CX File Explorer is one of the only apps I have found that lets me delete while scrolling through the full size images on the screen.  When I have culled the photos down I save the finalists on my PC and manually copy the matching RAW files to permanent storage.

I have used my Tab S6 for photo editing for a few years, very happy with it. As mentioned, it depends on the type of editing and your workflow, but it works for me.

Snapseed is (was) my editing tool of choice, but I have started using PS express a few months ago and I really like it too. I shoot both RAW and JPEG.

I have the S6 and it's fantastic for video editing, even smoother than my PC. I edit 4k files from my phone or from my Samsung NX1 using the free version of Powerdirector and this works very well for me.

For images, I only take JPEGs, so Lightroom on the tablet is fantastic for this, and free.

With the S7 this experience should be even better.
