X-E2 won’t turn off and doesn’t react

hey dpreview-community,

my trusted X-E2 recently decided to not work anymore. Maybe some of you had the same problems…

When I am turning it on, the screen will “light up” black.

The camera doesn’t react, no matter which button I am pressing.

When I am switching it off, it will stay on with the same black screen.

I tried different batteries, lenses and sd-cards. Fuji and third-party.

I was able to do a firmware-update from the newest firmware to… the newest firmware, but it didn’t solve the problem.

Thank you in advance for any helping comments!

Hi, strange issue. Not sure what "light up black" means but I guess you mean somehow the LCD turns on but is dark. How about the EVF, is that the same? Same for shooting and playback modes?

How did you perform a firmware re-load if you couldn't see any display?

Sounds to me as though the camera has bitten the dust. (possible motherboard prob'). Good excuse to replace.

Probably is a silly suggestion, but maybe you changed the display mode? (Turning LCD off)?

This part is the most troubling. Since you've tried different batteries, I assume that also means that you've taken the battery out. Have you tried leaving the battery out for a day and trying again?

I was able to do a firmware-update from the newest firmware to… the newest firmware, but it didn’t solve the problem.

How did you accomplish that? The screen for firmware updates works, but the regular screen doesn't?

Thank you in advance for any helping comments!

Have you been able to try a factory reset? Maybe you can see the screen through the HDMI?

If that doesn't work, you might be out of luck on a self repair.

Yes, the LCD turns on but is black. EVF doesn’t react.

The updatescreen will show up when pressing the “display/back-button” while turning the camera on.

yep, no effect even after a week

the updatescreen is the only thing that will show up when pressing the disp/back button while switching it on.

since i can’t access any menus i wasn’t able to do a factory reset (or is there a way without accessing the menus?). i will try the HDMI tho, thanks!

The camera doesn’t react to any buttons whatsoever (except for firmwareupdate) - so i can’t change any settings or the displaymode

So nothing in playback mode either? Only have a display when you initiate the software version/update option?

It may be worth a call to Fujifilm tech support, otherwise I think it's time to go shopping my friend. Sorry for your loss. Not sure what the repair costs would be but likely not worth the expense.

I have the exact same problem on my X-E2. Did you find a solution to the problem OP?

I wasn't OP. It looks like the thread was started with an account that was used only for that thread, so they might not respond, unfortunately.
