Google has discontinued Pixel 5 and 4a 5G
Aug 23, 2021
According to PhoneArena, a Google spokesperson said, “Based on current projections, we believe the Google Store in the US will sell out of the Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 in the coming weeks following the Pixel 5a 5G launch. These products will continue to be offered through a number of partners while stocks last.”
At the end of July, these Pixel phones disappeared from the Google Fi store. Previously, some retailers listed the Pixel 4a 5G as out of production - which is not surprising since Google is said to have produced few Pixel models. Previously, Pixel 4 and 4 XL launched in 2019 also stopped selling after less than 1 year on the shelves.
The new Pixel 5a launched with the same Snapdragon 765G 5G chip as the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, with a strong battery, water resistance and wireless charging. It is for these very reasons that it makes perfect sense for Google to stop offering older 5G phones.
Some retailers still have stock at the moment, but Google believes they will disappear in the coming weeks. The Pixel 4a without 5G - one of the best budget phones out there - continues to be sold.
Meanwhile, while the Pixel 5 was positioned as Google's highest-end Pixel phone last year, it's not a premium phone by any means. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro duo that Google recently launched with the promise of release next fall are highly appreciated thanks to the power from the Tensor chip based on the 5nm process developed by Google and manufactured by Samsung. They also have new camera hardware systems.
