Environmentally Sealed FZ300
1

Your thoughts please on the fz300 and if it really is sealed from dirt and dust. I have the zs100 and I love using my Nikon p950 long zoom but both have had to go to the shop to be cleaned. We ride sideXsides up in the mountains in Colorado several times a year and my cameras have gotten dirt in the lens, the ZS100 even when I kept it in the case till we were completely stopped at some pretty spots. I typically shoot landscapes, animals, and birds. I don’t shoot video and I wouldn’t be concerned that it be waterproof just dust proof. Your experience with this or any sealed camera would be appreciated. TIA

Re: Environmentally Sealed FZ300

I was pondering this issue planning a trip to places likely to be filled with harsh camera weather. I'm not into underwater photography but the TS7 has a tiny sensor, a 28-128 mm zoom (no RAW) and an EVF. It works surprisingly well in decent light.

No camera is waterproof unless it says water proof, but from reviews and from the input from owners of the FZ300 it is sealed against water and dust, so I think its definitely a step up from ZS100. It is definitely environmentally sealed, have read many that have used it in light rain etc. and have had no issues.

Since you're waiting until you stop, why not take the extra precaution of putting the ZS100 inside a Ziploc plastic bag?

Thank you. Keeping dust out is all I’m needing so that’ll be great.

I had it in a case in a zipped camera bag. But I’m going to assume that even when we stop there’s plenty of dust and dirt in the air from our side by sides.

Thank you. I haven’t even checked to see if the 300 shoots raw which I use but it’s really the environmentally sealed with zoom I’m hoping to find.

Re: Environmentally Sealed FZ300

Good evening to all-

I have used FZ300s for a long time- I've gone through several of them. I can attest that they are quite water resistant. They will NOT take a dunking. so if you plan to baptize your FZ300, you'd better just do a sprinkle and not a total immersion- just saying.

Now, I have not shot much in dusty situations, but I think the advice given previously about transporting the camera in a sealed ziplock or other close-sealing cover is a very good idea.

I really do like the FZ300- it answers a lot of prayers in usually satisfactory ways.

good night to all- Ed

I can confirm that the FZ300 does shoot raw.

Thank you. Do you know if it really does stay dust free in dusty situations?

Sorry TH I have not experienced dust with my FZ300. Some light rain but wiped down lens barrel before switching off and rest of camera before putting in bag. No problems.

My experience with dust was with the FZ30 a few years ago, dust got in the connections to the LCD. luckily it was still in warranty and it was picked up by courier, repaired and returned by courier all paid by Panasonic Canada. I still have that cameras do still works fine.
