Editing pgm for 3D 4K video?

Can anyone recommend a good 4K video editing pgm för 3D?

I use two cameras and press the shutter button on each manually.

Above all, synch of the two files should be done automatically, at least by recognizing a sound (e. g. hand clapping).
Different 3D formats (anaglyph, side-by-side) for export should be supported.

Nice to have: Editing functions (contrast, saturation etc) can be applied to both files simultanously.

Thanks a lot!

Re: Editing pgm for 3D 4K video?

Try looking at VEGAS Pro: Video & audio for professionals (vegascreativesoftware.com)

PowerDirector® - Best PC Video Editing Software for Windows | CyberLink

Home - EDIUS

I have done this in the past. Of course, you load the video into the editor above and below each eye and line it up according to the audio (clap, etc.). Your 3D videos have to be created in 1080p or 720p however for 3D players/TVs/Projectors to recognize them.

My favorite program is EDIUS, but more expensive. I think you can only align video in Vegas and Edius. Powerdirector just does auto alignment--not sure, been awhile.

Some have had success creating Over/Under 4K 3D and showing on 3D equipped 4K TVs.

There is a whole process to doing this that will take several weeks/months to figure out, but well worth it. For example, I create full-frame left/right eye 3D video out of Edius, and load that into Powerdirector to create a frame-packed bluray video in 1080p 24fps or 720p 60fps (the two accepted bluray formats). The 720p loses some resolution, but having the 60fps makes the video much smoother. Example, you can take 4K video in 30 or 60 fps and create blurays that will be super smooth. I have over 8 years experience making 3D videos, and it's not something that can be taught quickly; it must be experienced over many hours of trying and trying and trying different workflows to make it work.  Your experience may differ, so don't get discouraged.

If you don't go bluray, you can make side-by-side and over/under 3D at 30fps that will work.

Many don't realize that there was never a spec for 4K 3D video, so it doesn't exist as a valid 3D format.

Re: Editing pgm for 3D 4K video?

I have been using the same Editing software for my 3d work for many years now.

I have Sony Movie Studio 12 Platinum ( renders output at 1080p ) and Sony Movie Studio 13 Platinum ( which will render 4K output ).

I tend to use Sony Movie Studio 12 Platinum as I usually render my 3d at 1080 30p output. I have two cameras which I mostly use at 1280x720 120fps. This means I can align the time line of my left and right video tracks within 4mS or better, and I have the choice to do 4x slow motion if I wish. I can output full side by side with horizontal black bars at top and bottom or side by side squashed ( no  bars anywhere ) , or Anaglyph.

Today I tried rendering to 4K ( 3840x2160 ) 30p. My left and right footage was filmed at 1920x1080 60p. For this I used my Sony Movie Studio 13 Platinum software for editing. I output full side by side , crossview, with horizontal black bars at top and bottom . There was a bit of a bug in the software ( only occurs when outputting 4K ) in that vertical alignment was changed slightly when rendering took place. I off-set the vertical alignment to allow for this bug - not ideal - but sort of worked. I viewed the rendered output ( 4K 30p ) on my 1920x1080 PC monitor ( I don't have a 4K monitor ). I viewed using the cross-eyed method.

Sony Movie Studio might still be available and is great software for beginners. That has morphed, over time, into Sony Vegas and now just Vegas video editing software.

I have managed to create a short 3d 4K clip from Left and Right footage which is also 4K

This is the highest resolution I can obtain. I have not done this before.

That's great, I learned most of my early 3D video editing using Sony Video Studio and the twin gopro 3+ stereo camera system.

Re: Editing pgm for 3D 4K video?

It is possible to edit left and right channels for 3d side by side output using only DaVinci Resolve 17 software ( free ) . The PC must have a graphics card. Here is a Screenshot of a project with left and right clips at 4K resolution and the output setting for 4K cross-view output. This give very high resolution 3d output. ( I can't do anaglyph with this method ).

Certain skills are require to align the timing between left and right and also to align vertical and horizontal positioning between the two clips. It is however possible.
