Canon Powershot SX70 HS successor?

I haven’t been following the Canon rumors lately. Are the any words about a successor of the SX70? I never upgraded from my SX60, but now the camera is getting old and e.g. the flash stopped working. I’m thinking about what I should replace it with. I use it to document all things in nature, from macro to long distance photos.

Or apparently the current news.

Probably will be awhile, due to the worldwide impact by Covid-19 on production, shipping, etc, that's creating problems for mfgs. to get chips, etc. to keep their 'current' models in stock.

As posted previously:

Canon is temporarily shutting down three of its factories due to supply shortages caused by COVID-19

How a Chip Shortage Snarled Everything From Phones to Cars

Ford slashes vehicle production at six plants in North America due to chip shortage

America’s Imports Are Stuck on Ships Floating Just Off Los Angeles
Tens of thousands of containers holding millions of dollars’ worth of goods are stuck offshore, within sight of docks jammed with still more containers.

And many more articles ....

Best option is to visit the various Canon Rumors sites. Highly unlikely on the forums would know anything not posted in the various rumor sites.

The span of time between the sx60 and sx70 was 4 years almost to the day.  If you use this as anykind of gauge , you have about 13 months wait for the next sx??.

Try to repair it or get a second hand one.

As already mentioned: there is a chip shortage so Canon will probably not release any new SX?0 model any time soon.

You probably want a new model because you expect it to be better than what you have right now. But the improvements in new generations of camera's  are not as big anymore as they use to be. With this type of camera it usually a lens which more reach and a smaller aperture. (Which I do not consider an upgrade)

What you should also consider is that you are used to working with your SX60. A new SX may be a totally different kind of camera. So there is no guarantee that a newer model will improve your photography.

So if I were you I would first look on the Internet to see if there is an easy fix for your flash problem and if that doesn't work I would simply buy a second hand SX60. Here in the Netherlands they are offered for about € 150,-.

What's bad in an "old

Flash not working? Fix it for some $50 and continue to enjoy it.

When I look at the activity on the forums, it seems most "superzoom" fans have moved to the Nikon section. So if you need an upgrade, looking at the P950 or P1000 seems to be the best options.

😒 Not at all. It's SIMPLY about the HERE and NOW; i.e., if was not 'already in the works' prior to the worldwide Covid-19 Pandemic, highly unlikely that any updates to the SX70 to be made/ released. If you've bothered to looked online resellers few have the SX70 HS in stock.

Again appears you have not been reading news for the past 4+ years, otherwise you would be well aware of the overall declining digital compact camera sales.

Canon (or any other mfg.) will release new models when "they" determine they can achieve enough 'sales' to warrant releasing a updated/ newer model.

Also from the new cameras released by Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, etc., their current priorities are with the ILC mirror-less cameras. Second priority are the 1"-type sensor 'enthusiasts' cameras.

Guess you're not aware that Canon has not released any updates to the G3 X since it's June 2015 release?

Personally wished Canon would place IQ as the higher priority by releasing a updated 12MP SX50 HS rather than continue playing the marketing larger numbers game (MP's & Zoom Range).

I give KUDOS to Panasonic in keeping the FZ300 with the 12MP sensor with fixed f/2.8 max aperture lens, and to Nikon for staying with the 16MP sensor; as the higher pixel density with the small 1/2.3" sensor has long reached the diminishing returns on IQ.

With the 'current' camera sensor media technology, 12MP the optimum sensor density for the 1/2.3" sensor.

If you read specs on various smartphones (iPhone, Samsung, etc.) they're 12MP; the Olympus TG-5 12MP sensor has noticeably better IQ than the previous 16MP sensor TG cameras.
