The sigma focuses slow compared ton Panasonic lenses is well known. Moreover many sigma lenses are slow to focus on all formats

Sigma 60 focuses pretty darn quick. Certainly quick enough for tennis balls in flight. AND it's the cheapest of the lot around this focal length!  This is a SAF single shot example below.

So does the 56. I'll post a sequence shot in AFS, well AFC without DFD anyway, of some bikes traveling at 30-35km/hr when I get a chance. I honestly can't pick a difference between it, and native Panasonic m4/3 lenses

Interesting - I mean, if there is a quicker focusing lens please advise me!

At the focal length we're discussing the 40-150 Pro focuses very fast and silently. It may be a product of the dual focus groups and voice coil motors. In that FL range I have not encountered anything faster, the 75/1.8 included.

There may be others but they have not made it into my bag.

Cheers,

Rick

Equivalence and diffraction-free since 2009.
You can be too; ask about our 12-step program.

You haven’t stressed the lens enough bikes going at 35 km/h is not a good test you need to look at acceleration in the frame

A bird or even a person starting from still and doing a sprint towards you for example or another sudden movement. Objects moving at constant speed with you panning are almost static

sigma dc lenses are well known to be accurate but slow to focus. 16mm as it is wide an exception

this is not a huge problem for the 56mm as the use case is typically portraits

The 75mm in this thread is slower that was my point

would prefer not to go off topic on this thread that is about the olympus 75mm 1.8 that I also have just wanted to give some perspective on similar though not identical lenses

In terms of IQ I do think the 75mm 1.8 has an edge however the use case is not exactly the same and 56mm is a bit wider and faster and that helps many situations but the 75mm is a great lens if you can put it to use no doubt
