I would suggest renting the 50-140 and see how it behaves for you. I bought the 90, and sold it quickly. Focal length is not that useful, and for me, the 50-140 is a great workhorse. The weight is not bad at all, especially if you have used the Nikon equivalent.

Some numbers to ponder on...

Lenses:

Fuji XF 50-140 f/2.8 = 995g

Nikon 70-200mm f/4 G ED VR AF-S = 850g

Camera bodies:

Fuji X-T4 = 607g

Nikon D750 = 840g

Together:

Fuji = 1602g

Nikon = 1690g

I don't find either setup heavy in actual use. The 70-200-type lenses are the only zooms I ever use, the rest being fixed focal length. I play a 9 pound electric bass regularly, so compared to that, the cameras are featherweight!

I see your point, but I use a D850 and 70-200/2.8E FL and that combo is well over 2 kg

Yes, it would, kind if would make my 18-55 redundant. Looks like the 16-80 is not that sharp at 80mm when you move away from the center though.

Re: Fuji 16-80

I have read conflicting reviews on edge sharpness

I guess if one really pixel peeps then maybe

However, most people do not examine the edges when looking at a photo.

So much sharper than previous generations so imho for most people probably is not an issue.

I have both, 56mm and 90mm

I used both on stabilized (X-H1) and unstabilized (X-T1 + T3) bodies, for dimly lit concerts, musicals and such.

90mm is indeed not easy, you need at least 1/90s, if the person moves, better 1/125 which, at f2 will push your ISO up quickly. But it is what it is: once you nail focus and can hold the camera still, you're rewarded with great and very sharp photos with beautiful bokeh. Inside you need the space if you want more than a head shot of course...

The 56mm/1,2 has less contrast and sharpenss (wide open at least) but also can deliver nice portraits.

I don't intend to sell any of these, but if I had to, it would be the 56mm...

Hi everyone,

OP reporting back here. Just ordered the 56/1.2 today and it will arrive tomorrow. Just thought the 56 would be more versatile than the 90, plus I wanted to keep the size and weight down a bit.

I'll report back soon!
