Samsung NX focus peaking

I've been using an NX5 for a while, primarily as a digital support for my Russian r/f and EXA-fit lenses.

Having been introduced to 'focus peaking' by my Pentax DSLR's I find I rather miss the feature with my Samsung.

I'd been rather hoping an NX30 might become available at an "attractive" price, but that doesn't seem to be likely to happen, so I've been wondering, which NX body is likely to be the least expensive to try to find which will give me focus peaking?

I need nothing other than manual focus with focus peaking. I've assembled a small selection of various-fitting lenses and have acquired NX adaptors to suit. I just want a body to be able to play with them without the "is it - isn't it" focussing uncertainty of the NX5.

I certainly do not want to venture into another body system … I'm not that keen as to want to assemble another collection of adaptors just to play with a hatful of old lenses a few times a year

Thankful for any input

I can't help with focus peaking on Samsungs, but many earlier models had a feature called "MF Assist" which, er... assisted with manual focus. A vertical green bar on screen goes up as contrast increases under the focus point, and changes to red when you've gone too far. It's easier to use than explain, so here's an old thread with a picture:

This feature was in cameras as early as the NX100 which is pretty cheap now (no EVF, though). It's been a long time since we've had an NX100 but I seem to remember it worked pretty well. Unfortunately it wasn't available on the NX10 or your NX5, but was on the NX11. Intriguingly some users discovered you could flash an NX10 with NX11 firmware to get it (and other improvements, with a few niggles):

...but as both cameras are now a similar price this probably isn't worthwhile. I don't believe you can install NX11 firmware on the NX5 as the EVF resolution is different.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that information … that green bar is a feature I was totally unaware of and certainly something to be looking out for! I'll re-read the various manuals I've downloaded to see which models have this, then peruse eBay etc. with my new-found knowledge

In the meantime I've learnt that the NX300 also features focus peaking, which might be worth considering if I could find one cheap, but I'm not a fan of using a back panel to take pictures, too many reflections, as was confirmed this afternoon when I was asked to take a couple of snaps with an iPad, really struggled to get the framing right!

Acting on this info (and a bit more research) I've "scored" an NX11, no lens but with battery and charger, so am anticipating more good things from my older lenses in the near future!

Thanks again
