Samsung Gear 360 and modern phones

I received this camera as part of the upgrade package with my Note 8 years ago (about 2017). I just came across some photos I'd taken with this fun toy. I should try and find and start playing again, but anyone know if it is compatible with the newest Android OS and phones (I have a Note 20 Ultra) - I know that Samsung have dropped support for their VR glasses (that used the Gear 360 output) from the same time.

Gear 360 image manipulated with the the Samsung app on a Note 8.

Specs indicate Android 5.0 minimum. Which Android version are you using for your phone?

https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00066618/

"On your phone, navigate to and open Play Store. Search for and then select Gear 360. Make sure you select Samsung Gear 360 (New) to get the latest version of the app, and then tap Install. Once it downloads and installs, you can pair your Gear 360 to your phone."

https://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/gear-360/specs/

"Smartphone compatibility

Galaxy S8, S8+, S7, S7 Edge, Note5, S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, A5/A7 (2017) running Android 5.0 or later."

Never buy version 1.0 of anything.

Re: Samsung Gear 360 and modern phones

Samsung dropped support for their VR glasses totally - they don't work with newer phones. I know they also dropped support for this camera.

So many of these apps have to connect to a server to work, and my concern is that the app won't work with the camera for that reason.  It would be good to know before I go through the effort of tracking down the camera.

https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-no-longer-release-updates-gear-360-app/

"Samsung has now confirmed that it will no longer release any new updates for the Gear 360 app. No updates mean that it won’t support any upcoming Samsung smartphones. Gear 360 app updates and compatibility support on new phones will be discontinued from August 1, 2020.

There is some consolation for those who like the app. Samsung says that even after August 1, it will be possible to continue using the existing app. However, users shouldn’t expect any updates from Samsung. If you end up buying a Galaxy Note 20, the app won’t be compatible with your new device to begin with."
