HOW MUCH!!!!! over 20GB for Andoid system files!!!!!

I am new to Android and now I can see why new Android phones need such powerful hardware, ignoring the fact that most apps have been pulled, in its heyday my Widows 10 phone did everything Andoid did and the system files took up just over 1GB, why does Android take up 20x as much storage ?

Your post is too vague and doesn't offer enough information of OS version, System Settings, App Settings as Auto or Customized, etc..

I've never had any of my Android phones OS versions use anything close to that. Auto everything or OEM everything and no User Control or Customization can cause extreme device OS bloat. But Google System or OEM apps can be Disabled, Uninstalled and or Customized. If you just leave everything on OEM settings and Auto Update, vs. user control, then I can see storage being gobbled up. Also clean up App Caches and or App User Storage Data, which now needs to be done per app, vs. in the past being able to do the entire app system in one go.

I also avoid using Bloated apps and do not have high end, RAM loaded or extreme CPU devices as I can't afford them, but still my low end Android devices have always run lean and mean and are controlled by ME with nearly Auto everything Off or customized.

Nice thing with most Android devices, it's your choice how you want to use it.

My Moto "xyz", using Android 10 OS and up to date with security updates but is User Controlled / Customized, says it is using 12 GB's. So yes, not nearly as efficient as the Windows OS, but not 20 GB's.

You can probably Google Search the OS differences between Windows Mobile and Android.

I

Well its a Pixel 3AXL with a quoted  64GB storage, the files section says we have a mere 3.5GB occupied by apps with another 100mb occupied by photos and 2 short videos, the amount of remaining storage is quoted as 41GB, so over 20GB has been used for something, the phone is 2 weeks old, I will get used to it, but my windows phone didnt need anything close to this and seemed to be capable of pretty much the same things (before the apps started to disapear)

Contrast and compare !!

Both phones with a fresh install and about the same amount of Apps installed, I just cant see why Android uses up so much space when Windows was pretty much just as capable

Windows 10 Phone running on Lumia 950

Google Pixel 3AXL running Android 11, additional files (photos & video= 2GB plus 3.5GB used for Apps))

Correction, Android uses 11GB

Correction, Android uses 11GB, I have found it in storage, but that still seems alot to me, but not 20GB
