Hi,

You don't need a D700 review in 2021.

.

But here's a good one:

https://youtu.be/EM9riV4rdpE

.

If you want skip to the camera talk, go to 5:00 mark.

What you may find interesting is the opinion, not a review, of how this camera handled in a pro environment for 10 years.

We all know what it was good for, but did it handle well commercial and fashion, for example (typically associated with higher MP cameras)?

It did well, as in "I couldn't wish any better" kind of well.

It's a love letter.

Stick with it to the end, it may bring you to tears just as it brought me while I was editing (very easy to know why if you watch the end - camera related or not)

The video is really heavy on nostalgia.

Both from things that are now in the past in my personal life, as in a photographic journey.

I miss those D700 days like few others.

Oh it shows how cameras don't matter.

D700 was fine then, it's fine now, it will be fine in 2040.

I'd use it today zero problem.

PS:If you feel like helping, give the video a comment and a like.

I can't put in words how much I want to make this a living again (been retired since 2014) and your support is the only thing that will make this dream come true again.

Yeah, that's corny, but it's from the heart.

A simple hi in the comments section gives a massive boost for the YT algorithm.

If you can, can't thank you enough

Best regards,

Age is just a number....and the beauty is inside

It's the only camera I felt sorry for selling or giving it away,

… Thank you Marcio! Thanks to vintage crusaders like yourself, hopefully one day Nikon will begin to reconsider the values and quality of the D700’s and earlier CCD sensor images, and begin to question what has been sacrificed in a generation of technological “advancements”.

… Coolpix 5700 (2002)

Thanks Iain, lovely shot, really lovely!

I surely agree.

Oh man, I would LOVE if a new CCD FF ever came out, following some design principles from older sensors.

I read all your posts and just don't participate because that feeling we get with older sensors is something one has to develop an acquired taste for it, one that goes much beyond measurable engineering data.

To propose that to an open platform such as forums is, many times, something that will not end up in agreement.

But I fully understand where you're coming from, and agree.

The D700 is one of a kind, it trully is.

My particular copy is beaten to a point most people would just throw it away, but I keep using it and enjoying just like day 1.

Some buttons have already lost functionality so beaten it is.

I rarely buy a camera twice (simply because the money can be spent trying different stuff haha)

But the D700 is 200% worthy it.

Sooner or later I'll get another copy of this classic, timeless legend.

Best regards,

Yup, the good thing is that being a best seller as it was, you don't have to go far to find a cheap, gently used copy.

I just don't get another one right now because I have more cameras than I have shoots to do lol

But it's on the list.

My video presents just a mild idea how beaten my copy is, it's actually waaaay worse than the video shows.

The D pad (essential for everything) has lost the down arrow functionality, for example.

At some point I'll be off to ebay for a nice copy haha

Best regards,

… Marcio, love that you care so much for a camera, even so beat up and a few functions not working. No one has such a love for a modern camera.

.. Last summer, I was exclusively using the D100, D70, D40, and D200- after 15 years of modern sensor cameras. This summer I am exclusively using the Coolpix 995 and now the Coolpix 5700. Loving them.. brilliant, fun tools. And, bought for a handful of peanuts.

… Both work perfectly. Except the 5700 which has about thirty blown pixels that I have to individually heal for every processed photo. That’s alright.

After looking for a home for my older Nikkor lenses that can AF, I gave up adapting with mirrorless and bought a D700. I'm very satisfied and don't find the need to upgrade for higher MP.

Here are a few of my samples.

Iain and Photoholiko,

Thank you so much for your thoughts and lovely images.

I'm with you guys, this older stuff is downright awesome! Thanks for the lovely images, feel free to post many more

Just the obligatory nerdy, gear comment

One of the reasons I praise so much the D700 is that, contrary to popular belief, it's really no slouch in the spec department.

There's a certain thought it has aged regarding DR because it's not a 2020 body.

I did tests in the past and ISO 100 D700 (Lo1) beats my Mamiya digital back at ISO 25 in DR.

Any DR that's bigger than a digital back's DR can't be called small at all.

If anyone is interested, if anything just out of curiosity, I can post that test.

The D700 is that camera that will never get old, because it was essentialy perfect to begin with.

Please post more of your shots and thoughts
