Using Panasonic Lumix 12-60mm

This lens came bundled with my GX8. I photographed around town at that time and liked the lens. I've also used it with my GX7.

I haven't used the lens very much, so I thought I would revisit it today.

Local Farmers' Market

Historic Hotel

Church stained glass windows

Ceramic Sculpture

Globe Amarath flower. Uncropped. Useful for flowers if not too tiny.

A few from last year:

Milkweed Seed Pod

Neighborhood home at graduation time

Canada Goose at a Local park/lake, also a wildlife habitat

Great Egret

Usually, I leave home with my tiny, inconspicuous Panasonic 12-32mm mounted, which I've preferred for general walking around in public. But the 12-60mm is a fine performer for sure, and quite light.

I wonder how many use this lens.

I got both the P and PL versions of the 12-60mm and it's a handy zoom range without a doubt. The one that you got was widely bundled with a camera, and many people rushed out to sell theirs. A big mistake in my opinion. zoom range to weight wise, there isn't any other m43 zoom to better it.

Also have a Lumix 12-60, and really love it! Image IQ is super. FL range is really useful when in a general 'people' environment or when shooting at short distances.
Was originally worried that there would be too much overlap with my Oly 14-150; but I find I'm using both, quite a bit.
My 12-60 is hard to beat for IQ, good/strong focus and consistency.
Thx
Yuri

I'm mainly a prime lens shooter, I hummed & haaa'd for ages over the 12-60. Both the Lumix & PL versions. Bought the 12-32, didn't really gel with it, went back to my primes, & then a really good deal came up on the Lumix 12-35 f/2.8II. Around $700AU delivered to my door from memory. Couldn't resist, love it. I combine it with my excellent, tiny little Laowa 10mm f/2, & Siggy 56 f/1.4, & find that covers me for 99.9% of what I want to shoot when out & about. The 56 doesn't see a great deal of use, I find the 10mm gets more. That's this month anyway. Still got all my primes, I like mixing it up depending on my mood. Options are good

I bought one as an upgrade to the Olympus 12-50mm, which in IQ terms it is. I lost the semi-macro function and one or two less important features, but gained the 58mm filter size to standardise it with my other Lumix zooms.  It is now my preferred walk-around lens. I never took to the 12-32mm and it languishes in a drawer.

I find mine a very capable lens and use it all the time on my rather elderly G5.

My G85 came bundled with this lens. I use it often, most recently at a museum and at EPCOT center. I find for most subjects I shoot it covers the range I need. The other lens I use a lot is my Panasonic 30mm macro.

I got this lens along with a G9 for what seems like a surprisingly low cost over body-alone. The IQ exceeds my expectations, and I'm looking forward to using it on my next road trip when I don't feel like carrying heavier gear.

Re: Using Panasonic Lumix 12-60mm

Bought one for no reason other than a guy was selling one on Craigslist for $135. Pleasantly surprised at how good it is, and my normal walk-around zoom is the 12-40/2.8.

When I'm just in the mode to go out and see what pops up, I put it on my Pen.

Also must admit that it's relegated my 12-32, which is a VERY nice little lens, to the drawer.

I looked for ages and ages, couldn't find one for less than $5-600 here. It didn't make sense to me when for $100 more I got the 12-35 f/2.8 II brand new. I keep reading about people finding cheap 12-60's, I've never seen one myself. I picked up my 12-32 brand new out of Korea or Taiwan for just under $200, but never seen the 12-60

Full disclosure here...

My purchase was the Lumix 3.5-5.6, not the PL 2.8-4. THAT is an outstanding piece of glass. If some dingaling wanted to sell the PL for $135, I'd have bought it and run like a bandit. $500 for the Lumix lens? Uh....no.

Re: Full disclosure here...

Nice shots!

I had been tempted by the 3.5-5.6 version.... at a reasonable second hand price.

Although looking at some MTF charts it seems it shines up to about 40mm and then gets quite average as it reaches 60mm.

I decided instead to go with a 14-42mm ii which is extra good throughout the whole focal range.

But if I has some lazy cash I think I'd get myself the PL version.

I have both Leica and Panay and really can’t tell the difference in pics between them. Leica has slightly better contrast but nothing that you can’t match in post. Unless you really need the faster lens just get the Panny
