I hope you already fixed it but if not two things to check/do.
1.  Make sure the lens MF switch isn’t turned on if it has one.  I’ve been there before…

2. take the lens off and clean the contacts on both the lens and the body.

As you can tell by my typos on the hastily written phone post, I was pretty freaked out.

I turned off Eye AF and focused on my subjects by moving the camera around so that the wide focus mode chose the intended subject.  Not ideal, but it generally worked.

I went through the menu and could find no way to get rid of manual focus since the focus choice was grayed out.  The Tamron lens has no af/mf switch.

When I got home I search the web for a solution and found that I could assigned af/mf switching to a custom button and did so.  Hope that will work and I will continue to test it.

I had thought about removing and reattaching the lens but never did do that.

All in all I was very happy with the Tamron and the focal range was very suited to the venue.  Here's an attendee listening to a candidate at a Meet and Greet event.  Lighting was a mix of artificial and window.

I certainly heard the tension in your typing 😀

great that you found a solution to keep you going and with great results

give the contacts a wipe just in case.
