Freeze on startup after updating SPP to 6.8

Dear all,

As I very recently acquired a DP1 Merrill, I wanted to have a look at the X3F files using SPP. I was prompted to update from 6.7.x to 6.8.0, which I did.

Unfortunately, SPP is now always freezing on startup... FYI, I'm using a Macbook Air (mid-2012) running Mojave.

After a quick search on the forum, I tried the usual cleaning methods (deleting preferences files), but without any success.

Your feedback would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for your help,

MG

Hi MG,

Did you check your acceleration settings in the Preferences pannel? Maybe try turning on or off GPU acceleration, etc. I haven't heard of this problem before, but it could have something to do with the age of your computer, and Sigma's implementation of GPU acceleration, which was probably updated to work best with some of the latest graphics chipsets, which have come out over the past few years. At least that's my wild guess.

Hi, is it actually freezing or just thinking for a very long time? It can do both I think, depending on its mood.

You can try creating a new user in MacOS and start it there too, just to see if it can work at all.

BTW, I found these files related to SPP, maybe some weren't deleted:

/Applications/SIGMA_PhotoPro6.app
/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/SIGMA Plugin
/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/SIGMA_PhotoPro6
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/com.sigmaphoto.capturepro.plist
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/com.sigmaphoto.photopro.plist
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/com.sigmaphoto.photopro.sigma_photopro.plist
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/SIGMA
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/SPhotoPro.xml
/Users/<username>/Library/Saved Application State/com.sigmaphoto.photopro.sigma_photopro.savedState

Thank you all for your fast replies.

I found the solution thanks to both of your suggestions.

First, it was indeed not freezing but reeaaaaaaaaally slow (several minutes...) to start up. Second, I turned on GPU acceleration and then things got much smoother (though using aging hardware...).

Note for anyone encountering the issue :

1- Be (very) patient,

2- Turn GPU acceleration on.

Thanks again,

MG
