Happy with my purchase, but .......
6

I am an X100T owner who was quite satisfied with my camera. .. but decided to upgrade to the X100v for all the performance and features in the reviews and videos. After working with the X100v for the last two weeks, I am satisfied with my purchase, but see the V as incrementally better than the T, not exponentially better. (I have kept my T and expect both cameras will be used regularly).

I hasten to add I am not a pixel peeper, do not use the camera (or my X100T) for video, and have not printed any photos from the new V. That will come.

FujiFilm got everything right with these X100 cameras -- small, fun to use, fully adjustable, beautiful images, and responsive to the photographer. Using my X100, up to now the X100T, but now also the X100v, I believe, have helped me become a better photographer.

As a hobbiest, that constitutes a ringing endorsement.

Nice shots and good to hear.  I'm an XT shooter and each iteration brings a better but not earth shattering better camera.  Such is the incremental progess of technology

Dear Jimmy:

Congratulations on your V purchase.

I’ve read many of the reviews and want to purchase the V too. As hard as it is, I’m opting to skip this iteration. Have the S and T so I understand the pleasure surrounding this body. I’m holding out for IBIS. My guess is the VI will have this feature in a couple years.

I recently purchased an used T30. Not as much fun as the V I suppose. I think it is smaller and liter than the V. Already have the lenses I want and use.

Sometimes Fuji makes life so difficult. They upgrade their bodies and I want the new model. It is hard to say no and have no mean no. I will exercise self discipline and won’t purchase any new bodies until I do.

Enjoy your new V.It looks like a lot of fun to own. Thank you for sharing your new V images.

…it’ll never have IBIS - which can be more flexible for MILCs (with downsides that don’t make sense with OVFs such as constant whirling gyro noise of the video orientated XS10, and battery drain), but as a fixed lens camera it may have OIS.

I’m finding the leaf-shutter enough of a bonus vs slapping mirrors or FF curtain shutters, also the visual noise levels are low and the high ISO grain very likeable. For much of what the X100 series is aligned to - photographing people, you generally need to keep the SS high rather than in the low OIS requiring territory. In fact that’s something I like about this camera, that every is bolted down, solid lens no IOS floating elements, solid sensor no IBIS.

IMO there’s only one thing missing from the 100v and that’s a 2-axis tilt screen. The 1-axis is proving to be of great benefit, but I’m sorely wishing it had the portrait orientation tilt also.

Hi Nurse Marty --- thank you for your medical service in these difficult times. I wrestled with the IBIS issue, also, having lost many shots in dimly lit European churches and cathedrals and in low nighttime light (like this one - though not taken with my X100). The way I've dealt with it is to provide for minimum 1/60 shutter speed and let ISO and aperture take care of themselves. The fast lens on the X100 series helps here. Every camera has compromises, but I decided the fun side and performance in these X100 models, together with my workaround, balances the no IBIS question for me.

Re: Happy with my purchase, but .......

Yes, I agree the X100V is the "best" of the X100 series cameras simply because Fuji did make technical improvements over the X100F but how much better probably should be classified as "incremental"
People seem to forget, or maybe they didn't know to begin with, that the X100F was rated the very best fixed, single focal length camera, a person could buy for two years in a row,

That's better than the Leica Q series, the Sony RX1 series, the Ricoh GR series or any other prime lens camera.
I've owned 2 X100S cameras and bought the X100F when it came out but skipped the X100V because, in actual use, the F is hard to beat. I might buy the next iteration of the X100 but even that may not be enough improvement over the F to persuade me to spend the money.
With all that said, I definitely think if someone is buying a new X100 series camera the X100V will be a camera they love.

just had to stop by to express how much this photo struck me with the "pop" it conveys (at least scaled down). great example of what this little apsc wide angle lens can deliver!
