What have app developers got against the good old 3:2 aspect ratio?

I want to use my phone to 'scope out' landscape compositions before I get my camera out and set up the tripod etc.

I have a micro four thirds camera which is well catered for by the 4:3 aspect ration available in every camera app I can find.

My main camera, however, has a full frame 3:2 ratio sensor, and unless I want to accept a measly 720x480px (hint, I don't!) then there is nothing I can find that offers a sensible 3:2 aspect ratio.

I've checked out dozens of apps, and they all do 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, and a few more exotic things like 19:9 (where did that come from? A phone screen size perhaps?) but none have 3:2.

Why is that? There surely can't be any technical limitation that doesn't 'allow', say, 3072x2048px? Is there an unwritten rule from Google that "thou shalt not take pictures in 3:2 over a third of a megapixel" or something? It seems crazy to me, but there must be some reason, or there'd be apps around offering this extremely standard aspect ratio.

Grrrr!

I see you found the 720x480 res, all that the apps I use will do. Have you looked at Filmic's new FirstLight app ? I briefly installed the free Android version , which has limitations and found it interesting but a little too beta-ish to pay for. But it might work for your purposes.

Couldn't resist installing it again since aspect ratio is available in the free version. 3:2 is a standard setting and on my phone generates a 4032x2688 JPEG at 2.3MB. The user interface is unusual but not difficult.
